For drafting Ryan Kerrigan, Alfred Morris, David Amerson, Kirk Cousins(This was very controversial at the time) and Trent Williams(over Okung). These are tremendous picks that will help this organization immensely.

He was thrown into a cap hit situation that would have crushed any team, especially when we were about to hit free agency for defensive players.

Although his handling of the media was brutal, not every coach is cut out for it. His handling of qbs at times was very bad. In a nutshell, not the best people person. 75 percent of the fanbase hated him(which probably was closer to 90 percent after each press conference).

Shanny did do many things to help put the franchise in the right direction. Time will tell if we have actually turned the corner. But we have seen some positive steps. Shanny also made many mistakes. I give him credit for both.

It was the 4th year of his tenureship that made me smdh. A grown man acting in the way he did...hard to believe.

The odd thing - as your post shows - is that he probably did a better job on the GM side than on the coaching side. Beyond the moves you stated I give him major props for finally taking a lot of the control away from Snyder (in regards to football related matters). That was a major milestone for the Redskins.

As I have told many people - the main problem with Shanahan & pretty much any of these ex-SB winning coaches is that they demand and get to basically have the role of coach & GM which is a bad mix. They are also generally older & usually control freaks. This is not a good mix.

As you also mentioned Shanahan was not good on the PR side & was kind of Belichick-esque. Gruden appears to be at ease with the press. Not sure if that area is such a big deal, but it makes life easier for everyone.

I'd like to thank Shanny for the 3 last place finishes in the NFC East 3 of his 4 years in coaching the Skins.

And for the 3 single digit win seasons in 3 of his 4 years coaching here.

Right on for the awesome 24-40 W/L overall record and .375 winning percentage the 4 years you were here.

Metaphorical fist bump (right to Shanny's throat) for making Donnie McDirtball a Redskin. In another one of those multiple picks for a single player trade that's worked out so well for the Redskins.

Figurative dap (all upside Shanny's head) for allowing a poster to come up with the name of 5 players in 4 years of Shanny drafting.

Yay!

Can't think of a more descriptively accurate, yet concise, characterization of "the master mind".

hmmm. We know that Shefter brought it up to Shanny who's reaction was wtf?? The NFL signed off on all those deals. We all were stunned by this. Are people forgetting the hatred we all had for Mara and the NFL? How quickly we forget. Do we really know who drafted RG3? We do know who drafted the other people we mentioned.

Shanny sucked at the podium. Absolutely sucked. He handling of the Donovan situation sucked. His relationship with the team deteriorated quickly.

WE HAVE TO THANK HIM FOR THOSE AMAZING DRAFT PICKS!! MOVE ON!

Lets be perfectly honest about the cap penalty. Shanahan rolled the dice and lost. He and Snyder misread what the league would do. They were told when they submitted the contracts of DHall and fat al in for revisions that, while they were approved, they violated the "agreement" the owners had about the uncapped year and that there would be repercussions. They chose to go ahead anyway. Now, in reality, they had to do something because Fat Al's contract was like a built in cap penalty. And, in Shanny's defense, he inherited that mess. But they were not innocent of the risks they were undertaking when they violated the gentlemen's agreement (otherwise known as collusion).

He is not without blame for sure JY and he may have gotten lost in the candy store mentality. There have been a few coaches that have fallen into that trap under Snyder. Oh well, in the end Snyder had to eat the candy and sit his butt down in his owners chair and watch the games like the rest of us. Hopefully for good.

Yet another example of how the NFL just makes up the rules as they go along. With their current mess at least one good side benefit is that the NFL will have their ego taken down a few notches & not just make up the rules like they did in this case. Honestly - what other business gets away with crap like this? Since when does "Uncapped Year" mean something literally 100% different?

Don't forget that both the NFL & NFLPA approved these moves before penalizing the Boys & Skins at the 11th hour. I am really enjoying the fact that the Giants suck right now.

Haha, don't get it twisted. I say it was BS that it happened. It was a clever move that backed fired. Other teams did the same thing the Skins did. Some teams didn't spend money that year on free agents to get the cap minimum, but didn't get punished. No real Skins fan has forgotten the hatred for Mara. That's why most of us are enjoying the failures of the Giants currently.

Shanahan has done some good stuff, but mainly it's bad. The thing that matters the most is 4yrs of coaching this, only one winning season. He did changed the nature of the organization for the better, but he brought more outside noise in the mix that we have to hear, see, and/or read daily.

Love you too TC. We can have a honest decision about the ongoings of the Skins. I'm glad Mike was hired> He did make things better, changed the nature of the franchise, got Sydner to back off a lot, maybe not completely, but enough. The organization is in a better way. Just gotta hope it stays going in a positive direction

Yay!

He also won our only division title in over a decade.

He won our second playoff game in 20 years.

Trent Williams, Ryan Kerrigan, RG3, Alfred Morris, Darrell Young, Jarvis Jenkins, David Amerson, and Kirk Cousins were all members of Shanahan drafts. He was also responsible for signing Pierre Garcon. Three of these are pro-bowlers...name another coach for Washington who has done this.

Actually the cause of the cap situation was Vinny Cerrato. He is the one who signed Al and Hall to those ridiculous contracts. Either way it goes, we were going to have a penalty for cutting them. It made sense to do it in an uncapped season because what the owners did was OBVIOUSLY illegal...the term collusion.

There's no question he left us with some talent. But he coached that talent to terrible results 3/4 of the time and the big trade is not going to work out. So he has to take his lumps along with the praise.
