The real true reason he is gone is because his lack of recruiting. They forced him out and are probably going hard at Chris Mack. His health was the reason he could not recruit at the level he did from 2007-2009

There's a lot of chatter from pundits about Tom Crean, this IMO would be a fucking awful move.

In 9 years at Indiana his average finish in the big 10 was 7th. What would make you think he is going to do any better with Ohio State?
Dude if you clowns hire Crean

Hiring Crean would pretty much kill any of the reamaining enthusiasm in people that Thad brought back to the program.
Dude can atleast recruit. I would kill to have someone like Crean in terms of recruiting. Coaching however.

I honestly think this is his best chance to get to a FF this upcoming year. As good as Caupain was, I think the team is getting an upgrade at PG next year with Cane Broome. And with Evans, Washington, Clark and Cumberland back, that's a heck of a 5 right there.

We had a great shot last year too. It's just that UCLA bidding completely stopped the momentum.

I can't too see if Cumberland and Broome improved their defense. That's my only worry. Other than that, yeah. We're in pretty good shape.

Chris Mack can be removed. He's said he's staying at Xavier. Just bought a house in NKY.

The real reason that Miller isn't going anywhere is because he's got about 7m waiting for him (in addition to salary) in a few years.

Anyone talking about him leaving is wasting their time for reasons they don't even understand. Miller isn't going anywhere, yet.

Regents set to approve revised deals for Miller, Rodriguez

If Ohio State wants Miller(not saying that Miller would leave) they need to offer 8/9 million a year, or whatever Calipari is making, or close to it. And even then Miller probably wouldn't leave because he's got a top 2/3 team next year.

Pretty much.

Miller makes 5m a year with another 1.2m in max bonus, while Cal makes 6.8m with only like a 50k max bonus. Miller is the third highest paid and Cal is second, obviously behind K (at like 7.3m).

But with Miller also set to get a check for 7m in another 5 years or so, Miller and Cal are already making pretty close to the same amount by 2022 with bonuses (assuming nothing changes).

That's the reason I think the chances are slim to none. AZ has completely thrown in with Miller, and someone would have to pay him more than even Cal makes to get him to walk away from what he already has coming, and the top 5 team you mention, etc. Hell, based on how much he (and his wife) raves about it, I think getting him to walk away from AZ winters would add into the cost to go.

I don't think Miller would even entertain a deal for less than 7 per year, and it would have to be a place he could immediately walk into and be an annual FF contender. That's essentially what he'll be giving up whenever he leaves Tucson (at least that's been pretty close to a fair trend the last 5 or so years).

If Miller gets to a FF in the next couple years, and a NC before that 2022 payout, I don't think he'll leave.

If he doesn't hit those marks, I don't think there is any way he stays past 2022.

Per Gary Parrish, Fred Hoiberg has emerged a serious candidate for the Ohio State coaching job.

Welp Gene Smith clearly had no plan. Job offered to fucking Greg McDermott. Creighton has been nothing but average in the Big East since his son left. Total flop hire if he accepts

I legit have no idea how I feel about McDermott as a coach. They had a good year last year, but it wasn't spectacular or anything.

Due to his run at Creighton, I completely forgot he was a flop at Iowa State.

The ceiling with McDermott is probably being a perennial 6-10 seed in the tourney with no real deep run potential. About as average as can be.

Yeah, I don't get this potential hire at all. If you take out he years his son was playing for him, since he started at Iowa State, his overall record is only 118-112. And he's gone to just one NCAA Tournament in the other 7 years, which was last year(with a 1st round exit, although hampered severely with injuries). This would be a rather uninspiring hire IMO.

So Hoiberg is out, McDermott is out, evidently so are the Miller brothers. Doesn't look great, which is surprising.

Well, this is pathetic. There's no way mcdermott was the guy they had to act quickly on.

McDermott was never offered apparently, says he's staying at Creighton.

It's blatantly obvious Gene Smith had absolutely not plan going into this.

The only rational thinking I can come up with is that Smith and Matta had a huge argument over something, big enough to decide that it was time to "move on"

This is heading fast in the direction of "Interim Coach Chris Jent" for the 17-18 season. Which is dumber than if Matta would had coached 1 more season.

Or some small school coach that leaves everyone scratching their heads.
