Texas Open Carry

I heard that in Texas it's illegal to open carry a handgun but it's legal to open carry an rifle? Anyone care to tell me why this is, because this just seems backwards to me.

I think that's true. You have to get a conceal carry permit in Texas and even printing is illegal there. For a state like Texas it does seem odd.

Open carrying a rifle is often more likely to be legal in most places than a handgun.
