End all, tell all Hamilton's value will always be negatively impacted by his inability to stay healthy, no matter how good this season is

if he does have a healthy & awesome, the Rangers might just let him walk

Hamilton is just one of those players you can't hamstring your payroll with,

Pujols money with Rusty Greer health

Sad but true

maybe true but it would be sadder if he went to some place like the Angels and along with Pujols & CJ killed us for the next 3-5 years. what would you be saying then?

I dunno, Go Rangers? Yeah, that works.

I don't think Texas will be able to keep him. You can be absolutely certain that at least one team out there will get crazy and offer hime stupid $.

Hard to say. That little experience this offseason may have humbled him as did seeing Kinsler and Holland take reasonable contracts respectively. First he was trying to play hard ball saying he won't allow negotiations after the season starts. Then he fucks up and all of a sudden realizes how good he has it here and says he's open to further discussions. The rangers and Josh's agent are in preliminary talks. I think they'll extend him and it won't be for pujols money.

Thank you for the draft picks

Only way I take a chance on Hamilton is still on a heavily incentivized contract thats no longer than 5 years

I agree 100%! Hamilton either takes what we offer or we let him move on and we take the picks. I doubt he goes to the Angels as they already have enough aging outfielders. The Dodgers wouldn't shock me though.

Yup, Dodgers I think will be all in on all the big FA's this year. Think what Miami tried last year, but with a destination and team people actually want to go. Hamilton would be top of their list, especially with the Giants big name pitchers getting locked up.

draft picks MAY pay off in 3+ years. some on here are hung up on not competing for any players and putting all their stock on future picks maybe paying off. thankfully Nolan & Jon realize that you can't just let players like Hamilton & Napoli walk and stick just anyone in their spot. who in the minor league system is going to step in and produce like Hamilton? who in the minor league system is going to step in and replace Napoli or are you happy with Torrealba as your starter?

before you let quality walk away you have to have someone to replace them

Agreed.

Martin is the CF of the future (hopefully).
So who plays LF? Murphy is serviceable... but nowhere near what Hamilton is. (lets not kid ourselves).
Kinsler in LF? Maybe. But not next season.

Could always go after a FA... until Kinsler is ready or whatever the "future" plan is... i guess.

Personally, payroll is getting up there.... but I trust whatever Nolan/JD/Owners decide to do.

The right choice for the Rangers regarding Hamilton is a deal with playing time inentives, Hamilton typically produces when he plays

Rangers shouldn't be stupid and pay a player who's off the field as much as Hamilton

If he's off the field he's not going to make nearly as much money

I'd start off at 15 million base and incentivize his money after that with every 20 games he plays after 100, 3 million per 20 games, or 10 games incerements if need be

15 million for 100 games or less, 18 million for 120 games, 21 million for 140 games, 24 million for 160 games

Hamilton is worth every bit of 24 million if he plays 160 games, throw in some performance incentives that could earn him an extra 5 million or so, winning MVP, All-Star, ALCS MVP, hitting 50 homers etc...

Way Martin is tearing up AAA ... I predict Murphy is moved before the ASB and Martin promoted to serve as a semi platoon with Gentry. Gentry is still the better defensive CF. Murphy's days are numbered.

Agree tying up Napoli makes great sense ... but I'd be looking for another catcher now to replace Torrealba. He's just a backup and wiht Napoli's time at 1b not likely to go down any time soon. TEX needs a better defensive backup than Torrealba.

According to reports I read after TC Washington didn't see Martin joining the team this season. Said he was still learning and needed a full year at AAA.

Valentine is batting Youk in the 6th spot tonight vs. you guys. Cody Ross is in the 4-hole. Moronic management. Only two weeks into the season.

IF we get a couple more runs I'd like to see Derek pitch the 8th inning.
