Matt Mosley: It's funny you put it that way. He's only 23. Do you realize Nellie Cruz's career didn't take off until he was 27? Here's a significant stat that I saw in a story on The Ringer this morning: Joey has dropped his swing and miss rate in the strike zone by 17 percent. That is a huge. He's still swinging at pitches outside the strike zone, but he's now making a lot better contact with pitches in the strike zone. He and Judge from the Yankees are both making huge strides. Judge's numbers are even more dramatic. He's stopped swinging at pitches outside the zone and he's hit 13 HRs. Judge is two years older than Joey, btw.

What is Yu Darvish worth in a trade?

Matt Mosley: I think he could bring in a nice haul of prospects. This organization has traded a lot of young pitching talent. You could help replenish that area with a Darvish trade. But the Rangers will only deal him if they're truly out of the race. If they're hanging around seven or eight games out, Jon Daniels will be less likely to do a deal. But yes, I think there would be tremendous interest in Darvish. What about a team on the verge of breaking through every year...like the Dodgers.

Rangers have considered using Bush before ninth inning

Banister said on Friday that he has been tempted to use closer Matt Bush recently in tight spots in the seventh and eighth innings but hasn’t been able to do so because other Texas Rangers relievers in the bullpen who would come in after Bush are struggling and might not be able to finish the job.

Situations presented themselves when Bush could have been used to try to put out rallies before the ninth inning in three of the four games against the Houston Astros. Instead, Banister stayed with other relievers because there isn’t a high probability that another reliever could close out a potential win.


This seems like to me that it is saying if the other relievers are going great then Bush might pitch in the 7th or 8th, but if those other relievers are pitching great why wouldn't Banny just use them in the 7th and 8th. The story seems to be saying that if those guys aren't going good Banny is tempted to use Bush in those earlier innings. If they were going great then why wouldn't Banny just use them.
