Congrats to ESPN - they are now equal to Eklund. They printed this piece yesterday...

We speculated on our podcast Thursday about whether a KHL club might try to lure Alex Ovechkin away from the Washington Capitals, if not this summer, then perhaps over the next few years.

It's a similar idea to Ilya Kovalchuk bolting from the New Jersey Devils to the KHL last summer.

Ovechkin has not said anything that would suggest he's even thinking about it. But we asked KHL president Alexander Medvedev for his view on this possibility.

His response, relayed to ESPN.com via a KHL spokesman: "Per the terms of our memorandum of understanding with the NHL as it relates to respecting player contracts, Ovechkin would only be free to join a KHL club if he negotiates his way out of his existing contract with the Washington club. Should that situation come to pass, I have no doubt there are KHL clubs who would have interest in his services."

So you are quoting speculation from your own podcast as your source? :L So you have no quote from Ovechkin, no quote from OV's agent, no quote from McPhee, and the standard memo agreement quote from the KHL.

This is fucking pathetic "journalism." At least you didn't make it a cover story or anyth... ...oh dear...

ESPN (and probably lots of other outlets) are just there for hits. The headline was probably something like "Ovechkin to the KHL?" even though there's literally nothing in that that says ovechkin could be going to the KHL. It says KHL teams would be interested if Ovechkin could go to the KHL. Which is of course, a mind-blowing revelation.

It is shocking. I was pretty sure they'd say "The KHL? No, no, no - that simply will not do. We don't want Alex Ovechkin. Also, that Pavel Datsyuk can remain stateside as well. Good riddance, and good day, sir."

Relatedly, who knew that Russians spoke so much like the British?

Typical useless media these days out for the money grab.

So basically I bet if you ask Medvedev he would say the KHL is interested in:
Crosby, Giroux, Bergeron, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Malkin, Getzlaf, the Sedins, Chara, Weber, Quick, Rask, Seguin, Perry, Kessel (um maybe not  ), Hall, Pavelski etc...If they were FA's or out of their NHL contracts. I can keep going but come on what a waste of a story.

sorry to go OT and this isnt neccessarily terrible but I lol'ed

JPats pushed Torts at the end of the presser on the history of his Hartley feud. He leaned back while quizzing the coach and gave one of the best trolling looks of the entire season, waiting for an eruption.
