Only about 7 years too late.

I am guessing this will be a tryout for next year? I don't hate the move, but I am not excited either.

I'll give him a test run in the bullpen

I do not want a 38-year-old Ted Lilly in our rotation next year

Good point.

So why bother bringing him in this year?

Not a major deal, but certainly a head-scratcher.

Also, what are the 40-man ramifications? We have Vogey coming off the 60 this week, and now, potentially Lilly getting added in the next week or so.

Again, is Zito getting DFA'd?

Rumors were management was thinking about a 6-man rotation to end the year. But the thought of

Bumgarner-Cain-Lincecum-Gaudin-Vogelsong-Moscoso/Zito/Lilly still frightens me

If we keep all three in the bullpen though we have 3 long relievers which is unusual

I am thinking Moscoso gets sent to Fresno and Zito or Frenchy gets DFA'd

I am not in a hurry to dump Frenchy, though. He is only 29 (same as Pill) and has all the talent in the world. I am OK giving him lots of time with the coaches to see if he finally figures it out.

Why? This year it hardly matters, and I love the 6 man rotation idea if they go there, to take some mileage off of Bum and Cain and so on.

Next year I agree Lilly is not really an answer. But in this and all things, I assume (correctly) that these guys know what they are doing.

Just don't understand. If I had to venture a guess or two .... Zito gets DFA'd or maybe Cain gets shut down for the remainder of the year. Maybe Vogs gets used very sparingly and they let him regain strength and stamina slowly. Just can't imagine what we want with a 38 yearold SP other than to spell one of the starters. Just don't see him as a 2014 piece of the puzzle. Can't even see him being used in 2013 unless we shut down parts of the rotation.

I don't mind the 6-man rotation if we are going to use that 6th rotation spot on a young guy from Fresno to see what he has. Otherwise you are just looking for more ways to throw terrible, old SP's on the mound to save your guys a few innings. Call up some young arms and let them pitch.

Would it cost us extra $$$ if we DFA'd Zito now instead of buying him out at the end of the year

Now this is a few hours old, I am really more confused than I was at the beginning.

Why take on Lilly and DFA Zeets? Who cares if Zeets is worthless right now. So is Lilly. Neither factors into next year. I would rather put Zeets on the back burner and let him have one final start near the end of the year at AT&T so the fans can say good bye.

If they decide to 60-day Cain, than OK. But outside of that, I do not see the logic in this one. And I do not see them 60-day'ing Cain.

The Ted Lilly era is over. Hope our players can recover. This could send a big message that nobody is safe. Not even players who were signing a contract. Sabean just rips it out from you, tears it in half and says "no contract for you!
