I also doubt we'll ever be a top 5 payroll club, maybe not even a top 10. But you don't need to be such to win in this game. Tampa won 96 games with the smallest payroll in the majors. Oakland won 97 with the 5th smallest payroll (and just a notch above the Sox 4th smallest). It's what you do with the money that you plan on committing. And it's why I'm more for signing multiple talented players for the same amount or close to the same as it would take to sign one or two majors. Especially with our existing core of young studs.

I know the Sox traded for this guy Mazara based partly on potential and partly on contract control, but we gave up a pretty good prospect in Steele Walker to get him. Nothing screams out that Walker has a direct path to Major League stardom, but he does carry some potential. Back to Mazara, apparently the hope is the Sox obtained a diamond in the rough. He's young, he's big, and he's strong (a 505 ft HR can attest to this), and he brings a much needed LH bat to the roster, but so far in his career there's nothing that indicates this kid is ticketed for stardom either. And so goes our search for that last outfield spot - no Castellanos, no Ozuna. All in all, I'm rather nonplussed with this development.

Don't believe the bullsh*t you read...Jerry will spend once we put a team that is half competent on the field around the potential big signing(s). We've been top 10 in payroll 6 times since our championship.

This team just blows and signalled it was going to accept that it would blow for YEARS the minute we made the Sale trade...and thus the pocketbook was closed until further notice.

We have to field a goddamn competent team to get the old mizer to pony up. 72 wins and a pile of hope means dick diddly to Reinsdorf...and frankly, should to us as fans.

If we are seriously competitive this upcoming year, we'll make a big signing or two in the next offseason...I have no doubt.

The only doubt is if we're actually any f*cking good without the big signing(s). April can't come soon enough. I'm ready for us to be relevant again. This is going to be a crazy polarizing upcoming season one way or the other.

I'm not saying Jerry won't spend, period, as if that's the end all. Hey, he offered 7 more million more than Philly to Wheeler to pitch for the Good Guys. I've kinda dropped the cheapskate tag on him. But trading for Mazara clearly shows the Sox aren't willing to spend the coin for the top FA names in the OF. Now, are they saving it for a splash with the big name pitchers still remaining? Who knows. But this was a golden opportunity to land some pretty decent and established OF talent, but instead chose to go the 'potential' route, or as Chisox fan put it, "the endless rebuild".

It's been reported on a number of sports sites that the Sox offer was for $125 million. As for Mazara, you'll have to ask Rick and Kenny that question.

Castellanos and Puig were meh...Nobody would give a sh*t about them tbh. Don't get me wrong...They're probably better than the guy we got, but not by much. There are no game changers.

We need another goddamn quality starting pitcher. Keuchel is going to be it....then some small bullsh*t frosting signings...PRAY this team is good in 2020 so something actually good can happen next offseason.
