I have to say from a player stand point (not so much outside football character standpoint) - the Broncos ought to, at least. consider re-signing Talib - if they can. Here are my points:
1) Talib is a ballhawk - heads up player.
2) Every single interception becomes a threat for a touchdown as he is a very gifted interception return man - of the scale of D. Sanders.
3) He will take the tough cover - give a way weight and muscle - and still play with attitude.
4) He is an emotional leader on the defense - when on the field and on the sideline.
5) He is a top 5 CB in football.
Counter argument:
1) Robey is younger, bigger - has a longer reach and maybe is just as fast.
2) Robey has shown tremendous character growth over his professional career.
3) Robey also covers the tough guys - and his a genuine playmaker.
4) Robey also scores TDs.
5) Robey will be less expensive than Talib (by far).
6) The Broncos will probably earned a #3 round pick if Talib leaves in FA.
7) Talib will likely command enough guaranteed money that a team owner would have to worry if Talib would be able to continue to play at a high level for enough years (that and Talib's history with drinking and guns).
Prior to the season - I saw this as a no brainer - Robey - for less money. However, Talib has had the kind of season that has been very special on the field - and has made this a close discussion. I still think you have to get a real discount from Talib to remain a Bronco - or let him walk for significant money guaranteed elsewhere.
