Time to do a post mortem on C. Sutton's rookie season.

Courtland got a whopping 16.8 yards per catch, but caught only 50% of his targets (84 targets 42 catches).

Once Courtland Sutton can average 55% or 60% of his targets caught - the Broncos add 60 to 120 yards of offense per game. He currently average 44 yards per game. I think this kid Sutton can get 55-60% of targets caught by next year. That's a lot of offense the Broncos can add for next year.

I'm curious what the Board thinks of Sutton after his rookie season?

I'm more curious what his number of drops were, more than targets. His targets went up after DT was traded, then again after Manny went down. So that was just a byproduct of external circumstances, not really anything he did to improve or get better.

Just like everyone says, there's a big jump between year 1 to 3, where they should become the WR they are expected to be. I think we'll see a big jump with him next year, especially if we aren't going to run any west coast offense.

I am think Sutton is ready to be a very solid to very good #2 WR in the NFL right now. I believe Sutton has the ability to become a #1 WR with good coaching. Hard to know what type of coaching he may receive considering we don't have a coaching staff at this time.

As a matter of fact - C. Sutton's targets did not go up after DT was traded.

The eye test tells me that Sutton has a great chance of becoming our number one receiver. We'll know by the end of next season. His physical attributes alone give him a shot, if he can excel at the mental game and learn how to execute the entire route tree at a high level. A lot still depends on the quarterback throwing him the ball. A great QB can make a wide receiver great and vice versa.

He put together a stellar rookie year but wasn’t ready yet to be a #1. Not his fault ES got injured. Good learning to understand what it will take to move to the next level. He needs to learn how to run more than his verticals but A lot to work with

He wasn't in the slot and I can't remember one WR screen with Sutton - he's the type of receiver that needs to have an OL that will allow his routes to develop ... The thing that plagued this offense, to my eye, was that Keenum did not have time to allow routes to be run downfield ..

That last play of the first KC game -- Musgrave called the catch and lateral, which, at the time, I thought was a great call because Keenum was under constant pressure, and there was a very good possibility of him taking a sack to end the game .. The point being, it was obvious that we had a problem allowing routes to be run downfield, which I think is Sutton's forte ..

And look at how the game vs the Browns ended ..

I love Sutton and now that he's got a year under his belt, with a new staff coming in, I think he'll take that next big step in 2019

I didn’t think mentioning a guy who coached college teams to over 800 wins was so obscure. ;)

There's always Willie Sutton - famous for remarking that he robbed banks - because that is where the money is.

Sutton is really showing flashes of being a star this season. We we get a better offense around him he really could be elite. He reminds me a bit of a tougher version if DT with more consistent hands.

Courtland Sutton has everything you could want in a big time WR -- you can see the fire and competitive spirit in him, and it's obvious that he wants to win every matchup, every down ..

He's an intelligent guy who knows just how to use his size, and you add to that the fact that he brings it on every play and has an unwillingness to back down .. I love this guy ..

Sutton has been humiliating CBs right from the start of the game .. Teams are going to put their biggest, strongest CBs on him, but they better have two because Patrick is on the other side .. and Fant is becoming another matchup nightmare for defenses ..

My mind first went to Willie Sutton - the bank robber - who famously answered the question about why he robs banks - with: "because that's where the money is."

Why through the ball to Courtland Sutton? Because that's where the money is - still works.

Halfway through his 4 year contract. What does Denver do in year 3? WR is a dependent position but Sutton is doing all he can to be a central piece to the team in the future. One reason Manning came to Denver was DT. Sutton can attract a veteran QB like Cousins in year 4 if Denver is still searching. heck maybe Dak is available in 2021. Lock as the starter playing well in 2020 its a no brainer. Pay Sutton . Paying Sutton huge coin without a QB is tough.

Brandon Allen is playing pretty well in is first action. The coaching staff seems to trust him.
