I was looking at it, and although there is a lot of potential for negative swings in production (Cruz, Lind, Guti), the Mariners look to have their best lineup since 2007 IMO.

The lowest batting average of any hitter from 1-7 is .266, by Kyle Seager. Iannetta and Martin both had shitty BAs last year, but their BABIP indicates that both should improve by at least 15 or more points. In addition, Iannetta makes up for a mediocre BA with an strong OBP and above average skills behind the plate.

Figure I might as well throw one delusional, optimistic post out there regarding the Mariners before first pitch.

Happy baseball season brothers

I always look forward to baseball season and the Mariners. Sidenote: Cano just hit a homer.

I think this lineup has the potential to be the best lineup we have seen in Seattle in a long time. It has the best upside on paper for sure, but like you mentioned there is also potential for it to be disappointing.

Excited for the start of baseball season. Hopefully the Mariners can give us all something to cheer for. :suds:

That's exactly the Cano we need. The guy who can put a run up early even after 2 quick easy outs to start the game.

Seager!!!!

I'm just looking for disciplined ABs.

Control the Zone-speak and k/bb ratio were the big focus points in spring training, and time will tell soon enough if it pays off when it matters. Ianetta just put together a very good AB...and then forgot that he's a catcher and slow as molasses getting thrown out by 10 feet trying to steal.

Yah. The walk by Iannetta was nice to see instead of a strikeout from Zunino.

Not long after I write a thread about being optimistic about our lineup, we manage to lose a 1-run game in which the other team was 1 hit.

It's definitely baseball season again.

After drinking the kool-aid last year, I decided just to have a tall chocolate milkshake this year instead...

Good thing we can give up a 2 run lead again for the 2nd straight day... What happened to all these manufactured runs we're supposed to be getting this year with our smart AB's? :D

That stat they mentioned about our Catchers.

Getting on base 3 times in a game. Iannetta does it in game 1 and game 2.
They said it happened 6 times last year, total.

I also like the bench way more than many past seasons.
Sardinas and Smith both smash HR's.

Nice to score in double figures.

Now, let's see what Miley gives us. I'll be at the opener on Friday. Go M's

At the pace he pitched in his ST starts, I think he'll give us a game that lasts about two hours.

I have a feeling were going to feel like this offense is amazing.... because they'll be around league average, and compared to the last 10 years, that's amazing.

As long as the pitching goes back to looking like it did a couple years ago (the bullpen is off to a great start so far), an average offense should be sufficient to get us into the playoffs. It'd be a bit of a miracle if our offense went from terrible to awesome that quickly.

Winning doesnt upset me, I enjoyed the series so far. But it is only 3 games. Watch and see what happens.

Agreed 100%. I remember in 2013 (I think?) we swept the Angels opening day and everyone was like, "OMG Ms WORLD SERIES!!!!"

You guys here are very knowledgeable.

I know the season is in the very early stages,

but what is your opinion on the Mariner's fielding at the moment.

Missed plays and errors?

I was really interested in how DiPoto gave the team the overhaul we really thought it needed, after so many years of futility, it looked like things were going to start changing, if even slowly.

Then we started playing at home.

Times like this I'm glad we ditched our cable a year and a half ago. All I gotta do is look up this stuff online, and it saves on the aggravation that the rest of us are feeling, even this early in the new season.

I'm keeping this icon up until they actually do get their shit together and start playing like they're supposed to, on the Major League level, not some Quadruple-A Chicken McNobodies.
