I know most of you will disagree with me, but I think trading Kobe would be the best move for the Lakers in the long term. We went through the exact same situation with Nash and at the time I was the same way as you guys.

I laughed off trade rumors and was convinced he'd retire in Phoenix. He was still playing good ball in his last year with us. But to be honest, trading him helped us rebuild as quickly as we did. If we hadn't traded him, we would be in a horrible position right now. LA needs young talent and to completely rebuild just like Phoenix did and if they get lucky, make some good picks and hit a FA or two then they could be back in business in 2-3 years. It was only a 2 year rebuild for PHX after trading away Nash, Gortat, etc.

If you get a quality asset or two and some picks for Kobe then you gotta pull the trigger.

No offense to Nash but Kobe has played about 9 more seasons with the Lakers than Nash played with the Suns. Kobe is tying John Stockton this year with 19 seasons with a single team. There's about a 0% chance of a trade happening.

While you make some solid points, Kobe is far more tied to the Lakers franchise than Nash ever was to the Suns. Kobe has been with the Lakers since day 1 in the NBA. Nash, on the other hand, started with the Suns, then went to the Mavs, then back to the Suns. This makes it a very different situation, imo.

As badly as Kobe wants another ring, with some of the things that he's said, it seems that maybe at this point in his career, retiring a Laker is more important.

don't see it happening but if you get a blow away offer you have to at least consider it. slowly but surely some of the marquee free agents are resigning with their own teams. that was the plan of offseason reload cap space for 15. maybe you convince love to leave cleveland.

The problem with any offer, let alone a blow away type offer, is Kobe's no trade clause. The Cavs could call and offer Lebron, Love and Kyrie for Kobe, Sacre and Nash and the Lakers couldn't do anything unless Kobe agrees to it.

The problem with getting Kobe to agree to it is that I don't see him doing that unless he's going to a contender and a contender would likely have to give a good chunk of what made them a contender in the first place.

Like I stated, I think this is writers speculation to ease some workplace boredom.
