So I read an article about how Stevie Johnson and the Bills are "far apart" on a deal and the Bills likely won't franchise him:

AP Source: Bills 'far apart' in talks with Johnson - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

I'm not necessarily a Stevie Johnson fan, but there are a few aspects that are making me believe he may be a serious possibility in San Francisco. He's not in the upper echelon of wide outs that will be available. Vincent Jackson, Desean Jackson, Marques Colston, and Dwayne Bowe will attract more attention than Johnson, but Johnson's production has been just as consistent. He has the size the 49ers are looking for. He's also a Bay Area product. He was born in San Francisco, he went to high school in Fairfield, and went to a California CC. It's possible he was a 49er fan as a kid.

He's not my first choice (Robert Meachem), but I could see him being their target and it working out as Carlos Rogers did.

Robert Meachem can't even excel in the Saints offense.

Stevie Johnson would probably be my 1st choice of all the WRs in FA, because he will come cheap and he's proven he work even the best DBs of the league.

I would be okay with Stevie. He would improve the WR corps.

Also, he went to Chabot College in Hayward where I work. That alone, is the reason why I want him on the Niners. I always support local products.

I'd be happy if the 49ers got Stevie, he's only going to be 26 next season. And he's big enough and fast enough to get open against most DBs. His 15 yard celebration penalties will get old, but... since they come after TDs, I'll be OK with it for the most part.

I'm pretty sure he's going to get franchised. If he makes it past the tag i could see it as a possibility.

Johnson has not discussed how much he's seeking, except to say he's not asked the team to pay him $9 million or $10 million a season, which would put him in the upper echelon of NFL receivers.
7 or 8 per seems alright for Stevie Wonder.

That amount scares me for all his drops and no downfield blocking.

He is from Fairfield, Ca though, Rodriguez High School. It's hard for me not to advocate for a (707) guy.

I would take Stevie in a heartbeat...especially for 7-8. If he meets with Harbaugh and Harbaugh expresses to him the idea of team, then I'm ok with a Stevie Johnson signing. I don't think I can stomach the TD penalties though. But off of pure production, Stevie Johnson is a good WR, someone whose age and abilities match what we are looking for.

Yeah I like Stevie too. Plays with no fear and passion I think would mesh w/ Harbaugh. Either way there's still a lot of other good one's out there, hopefully getting to the NFC championship game will attract potential FAs.

Yeah I'm sure that 15 yard TD penalty on Vernon in the playoffs had you vomit.

Can we all stop being sheep? The guy had ~three~? celebration penalties and since the 1st was against ESPN's darling Jets the media really focused in on them. David Akers will not shank a kickoff to give a team great field position to win the game.

Actually the VD penalty DID piss me off, because it was done in the Playoffs. Stevie Johnson was told by Chan Gailey that the next time he pulled an OchoCinco, he would be benched and he did it anyways. THAT is what I have a problem with. The fact that he completely disregarded what was being told to him all for his 15 minutes of fame is the problem, not just spur in the moment decision. Timing and context are everything.

Do you any concept of reading comprehension? Read my post again. I don't have a problem with anything as long as it doesn't negatively affect our team. Stevie Johnson was told to stop by HIS SUPERIOR and he didn't. That is my problem, not the act itself. What part of THAT action reeks of "team player" to you? I don't give a flying fuck if Victor Cruz does a salsa after each TD because he doesn't get flagged and it doesn't hurt his team.

If Harbaugh were to tell Johnson to stop with all the "ME!" shit and he continued, what do you think would happen?

yep, IF true it indicates a 'me' player first, team second.

agree, doubt we'll get into a bidding war for the top WR's, so a 2nd tier like Johnson is possible. Baalke and staff will check these things out for sure.

He's not looking for an upper echelon deal. He's asking for less than that and the Bills aren't meeting it.

I'm down for Johnson and Lloyd. We'd have the best rap group / WRs in NFL history.
