We should have a FA thread so we don't keep making new ones for every player. What do you guys think?

Ok back to the title of the thread. I think 49ers so offer him a 1year with a 2nd year player/team option. Imagine him in the slot with Crabtree and Boldin and V. Davis. He is still productive and still hungry to win.

He would be a great fit. Offer him like 5-6 million for the 1 year and the 2nd year bump it up to 7 million(option year for the team). 1 million buy out if we reject 2nd year.

What do you guys think?

There is a sticky thread up top on free agents and signing already.

If he came cheap I would be down with it. However I don't think he will be that cheap. He's not really needed. Let's get younger at this position.

Not to burst your bubble, but why is it whenever someone is released, you 49er fans automatically think he's on a plane heading to the bay area?

Who said we think every player is coming here? We are fans and this is a message board. This is the things we talk about. Nobody thinks we are going to automatically get every FA.

Lol you must not pay attention too much.. There is a thread with over 2,600 posts up top about free agency and another with 400 about the 49ers offseason

I'm surprised he's still as effective as he is after playing for 14 years.

13, but close enough for a football novice, and really I'd only call it 12, since he played only 1 game in 04.

I'd hardly call Smith a "novice".

How about you pay attention to all things chowd and leave the 49er discussion to us? I have no desire to talk about the Patriots, so not sure why you are interested in our discussion about potential 49er free agent signings on the San Francisco 49ers messageboard?

Not sure if you are being deliberately obtuse this time or if it went over your head that he was calling you a novice, not Smith. Or was it a joke? Man, it could be any of those three.

My money is on number 2, he'll try and convince everyone it's 3.

Smith is one of my all-time favorite non-49er players, so I'd love to see him signed. The trouble is that he would cost too much. If Boldin hadn't signed, I'd be all for it.

Now if Smitty would take a 1 year $1 million dollar deal to chase a ring with the 49ers- I'm in.

I want a Ute on this team and no Cody Hoffman (BYU)! I'd accept it if he worked out, but anything short of that would be a waste of mixed emotions. Coming in and bombing while I had to root for him? Yuck. BYUck.

We weren't among the five teams Smith asked the Panthers to try and trade him to. I fully expect a team like the Ravens to sign him.
