Nothing important here except two of these guys should have been in a Key and Peele football segment.
I won't say that he can't make the transition, I just have plenty of doubt about it. I'm not convinced that he'll be able to play the position any better than Mitchell because neither are great in coverage. Beating the dead horse once again, but both play like LBers in coverage which is not what they need at FS. They need a true FS. Quit slapping bandaids on the position that is the secondary's biggest weakness.I know some people don't think he's a FS, but...
Dulac: Steelers Considering Moving Sean Davis To FS If Mitchell Released - Steelers Depot
I keep saying, if 28 has a starting caliber SS on the board...take him! Davis imo is better than Mitchell right now.

I can see the reasoning, but there's a huge difference between backfield coverage and the coverage that Davis plays now. The range is a big part of it, but not all of it. We know the FS position demands an incredible amount of knowledge about how the defense & offense works, as well as playing the QB & WRs at the same time. FS position requires the best "above the neck" skills in the secondary. If the coaches think he's got what it takes then I'll reserve judgement until gamedays.Interesting read...PIT seems to think he has the range, etc, suited for FS.
I think he's better in coverage than Mitchell by a sizeable margin, but does that mean he should be playing FS? IDK.
I'm hopeful they get it right...I'd rather see Davis as a 3rd yr SS in this DEF instead of potentially 2 players learning a new position on the job.
