What's the point of signing a contract if no one ever honors It? Athletes hold out, coaches resign.

That's certainly the Caps point of view.

On the other hand, the way it worked out ended up gaving Trotz an incentive NOT to win the cup. If the team had come out flat in the SCF, and lost, then that clause came out, Caps fans would have been furious, and rightfully so.

It should have been resolved one way or the other prior to the SCF. We Caps fans are lucky that Trotz acted in the team's best interest even though it clashed with his own.

It's been my point of view every time a player holds out or a coach leaves in the middle of their contract. There was no altruism there. Trotz knew he could easily resign and go to greener pastures if the Caps didn't pony up, and he knew they wouldn't given the contract terms.

Winning the Cup not in the coach's interest? Ha, I've heard everything now.

To all the "Pittsburgh West" fans, let me say what we're all thinking...

Fuck you, you spoiled assholes. You have 5 Cups and because your team got knocked out you all can't just suffer through the pain like so many of us do year in and year out?

There is no Pittsburgh West. Your ex goalie is there that you all were happy to let go of his big salary, James Neal hasn't worn the black and gold since 2014, and Engelland was hardly a fan fave or a strong contributor when he was on your team.

If my goalie or a forward from the Caps ends up elsewhere, I'll wish them well individually. But I'll be damned if I'll ever act like a fan or cheer on another team that doesn't have CAPITALS written across the sweaters.

Because I'm a true fan. Props to you Pittsburgh fans who are the same. You know who you are. Many of you have a Pirates logo sitting in those squares.

This wedding meets Superman's Fortress of Solitude cake Ovechkin had at his Cup party is just hilarious and awesome at the same time. The Ovechkin figure in the middle rotated. The thing is massive.

I now pronounce them groom and Cup.

Carlson's day with the Cup in DC: visit to firehouse where firefighters were working on the 4th, visited kids at Children's Hospital, went to a bbq his neighbors were having, and went to a fundraiser for children's brain tumor research.

Of all the guys on the team, #74 spends the most time in DC, is the most visible in the community, and seems to spend the most time doing charity work. His day with the Cup represents that perfectly.

Glad we have such a high caliber human being and that he'll be staying right here for some time to come.

Marc Andre Fleurry signed a 3 yr. 21 Million dollar deal to stay with Vegas.
guess they have the cap space, but that could look like an ugly deal in a very short time.
great contract timing on his part after that playoff run though.

my Pens are probably now wishing that they could get him back. what was a strength is now a major question mark.

Unfortunately the Letang contract made that impossible.
Also if you look at his numbers he had with the Penguins, near the end, they weren't great. I doubt he would have been as good on the Penguins due to their defensive liabilities.

EDIT: that contact will give them a late 30's goalie with a +7million dollar cap hit in a few years. That doesn't normally go well (IE...see the Rangers current situation).
