Cup finals will be between a 6th seed and an 8th seed. The best example of parody in the NHL.

Also the first time two teams meeting in the finals started all three of their previous series on the road.

Crazy!

Hmm...interesting. Imma try to look that up.

Yeah, I was trying to Google it. It would be an interesting stat. Take out the Original 6, and see how the 20 or so teams that remain have done when going to the Finals the first time.

Let's see...
Lost their first time - Canucks, Caps, Sabres, Hurricanes, Oilers, Flames, Stars, Panthers

Won first time - Lightning, Avalanche, Flyers, Islanders

That's what I have so far.

Yes

FLyers lost to Blackhawks who won cup
Flyers lost to Bruins who won cup
Flyers lost to Debbies who will win cup

However, the team that has beaten the Canucks has been the Cup winner the last two years. Something's gotta give I suppose.

Okay, 32 teams, these are the teams that haven't made it ever:
Columbus, Nashville, Minnesota (as Wild), Winnepeg/Atlanta, Winnepeg/Phoenix, San Jose
All 26 other teams have made a Final:
Capitals-Swept by Wings
Lightning-Win in 7
Panthers-Swept by Avs
Hurricanes-Lost in 5 to Wings
Kings-Lost in 5 to Canadiens
Stars-Lost in 5 to Isles (as Minn.)
Ducks-Lost in 7 to Devils
Sens-Lost in 5 to Ducks (as current Senators)
Sabres-Lost in 6 to Philly
Canucks-Swept by Isles
Oilers-Swept by Isles
Avalanche-Won in 4 over Panthers
Flames- Lost in 5 to Montreal
Blues-Swept by Montreal
Penguins-Won in 6 over North Stars
Flyers-Won in 6 over Boston
Islanders-Won in 6 over Flyers
Devils-Won in 4 over Wings

I'm excluding the Original Six because that's just complex to figure out...and not quite as relevant. Anyway, not *extremely* relevant because these are obviously different teams and groups of guys...but definitely a trend. Only 2 sweeps by newbies, and 6 Cups overall. Out of 24. Obviously the Kings have been there.

Also, there's something in the Atlantic Division water, eh? :) All teams won in their first shot even the Rags back in 1928.

Well done. I actually forgot that technically the Kings have already been to a Final. :L What a dummy.

As much as I dislike Tortorella, he would have at least been fun to watch in the Finals pressers. Now we get two coaches you have to check for a pulse every 10 minutes just to be sure they are still breathing.

Kings don't scare me. If we can still beat Henrik (arguably the best goalie playing) while having a ton of our shot attempts blocked then Quick and his defense isn't any bigger of an obstacle. The Western conference plays a different, less defensive, version of hockey than the East. The question is whether the Kings can play a grind-it-out forechecking board battle and whether the Devils can shut down Dustin Brown.

Devils in 6. NJ gets home ice due to higher seed and better regular season right?
eta: Yeah, nhl.com has the schedule up:
6- Jun 11 '12
4- Jun 06 '12
3- Jun 04 '12

@ New Jersey Devils Date Score W. Goal
7 - Jun 13 '12
5 - Jun 09 '12
2 - Jun 02 '12
1 - May 30 '12
