Yeah, Chicago shouldn't be first

this was more my confusion. i'm sorry, but they aren't in the elite status going into next year. too many questions. don't get me wrong, it wouldn't take much to move them up there. some overachieving by the scrubs they pick up, turco having a comeback type year, but right now, there's no way they're number 1.

Really? I understand if you said they aren't the favorites... but they still have Toews, Kane, Hossa, Keith, Seabrook, Sharp, Hjjawelllromarson. I still think this is a top contending team.

My favorite parts:

"The Ducks at 25/1? It would be more enjoyable to just light a $20 bill on fire and watch it burn."

and

"Apparently Ryan Miller and Tyler Myers will get you 20/1 odds. Because the rest of that team just SCREAMS Minnesota Wild to me."

those are all solid sure, but they lost all their role players, starting goalie, and they aren't exactly filling in the losses with high end scrubs...it's gonna have to be basically AHLers. i'm just saying i wouldn't put them in the top 2 east or west. i probably wouldn't put them in the top 5 for the cup at this point. like i said, if some of the scrubs over achieve or turco has a great season they could get in to the top certainly, but i just don't see them as the number 1 contender.

I agree, not number 1. But I think they are definitely still top 5. They actually are a lot like the Penguins when you think about it.

Chicago is first for several reasons. Betting odds don't necessarily reflect who the odds makers believe is most likely to win, although that obviously is a huge factor. If all teams had equal odds then they figure that Chicago would likely get the most bets. Therefore the cost to bet on them is the highest. Why do they think they would get the most bets? Well 1 is they do have a very good team and even if they aren't THE favorites, they should still be among the elite. Secondly, being the defending champs probably leads to a perception that they will be a better team than they actually are to the casual fan, who doesn't know much about all the players they lost. Thirdly, the Hawks have a booming (bandwagon?) fan base, so they will get a lot of homer bets.

And given all these factors, that's all the more reason why I agree with whoever it was that said Philly should be higher.

Chicago's spot looks fine to me. They are still going to be very good next year despite the fact most people seem to want to watch them go down in Flames.

I'm liking the Avalanche at 45/1
