As bad as our team is going to be this year, they really needed the extra scrimmage time. Looking at the history of Pelini's coaching at Nebraska, a losing season in 2012 is a very real possibility. Look what happened after we lost a couple of good players from the 2009 team and then a couple from the 2010 team especially. Losing Lavonte David especially and some offensive linemen to graduation is going to be devastating for the 2012 season.

I really believe for Nebraska to have a successful season, a 9-4 season or so, mistakes like offsides, holding penalties, and turnovers are going to have to be greatly diminished, and I don't all of a sudden foresee that happening.

I know, I know, someone is going to ask me why I'm being so negative. In advance, I'm not being negative, just realistic and I truly hope my assessment is wrong! We'll see next season!

My parting shot... As I look back at the 2010 season, I think that team could have been a dynamite team with the right coaching and play calling.

I will not say you are being too negative but I will say you are being dumb as fuck!!!!!!!!!!!

What was going to happen today was not a scrimmage. It was a show. This "game" meant nothing!!!!!!!! Missing a hodge podge mix of players in one glorified practice does not mean the upcoming season will come crashing down.

If you want to talk about the other shit then fine but don't start it off by saying missing this glorified practice is a huge downfall.

If it was truly a big deal them Bo would have found a way to reschedule it.

Couple of thoughts:

1. There is zero reason to believe this affected recruiting much. The practice simply acted as a draw to get guys on campus. Els would tell you that's 90 percent of the battle... Just getting them to come take a tour. All the recruits toured the facilities and met with coaches. I'm sure it was a very very positive experience for them overall.

2. I could give two shits about if the "game" was played. This saves us from having another Currenski Gyllylen episode... Which there surely would have been. One god damn catch and all we hear for the next 5 months is how he's the next great reciever at Nebraska.

Say for example braylon gets a nice interception and return... He's suddenly the next prince or fonzie... :L

Very little negative came out of all this and Nebraska came out looking good for once again showing they care more about the welfare of the student athlete than the game of football itself.

Like I said, we could have lured those basketball recruits a little closer by getting them to see how crazy our fanbase is.

Football was not harmed one bit today.

I seriously doubt the basketball players cared at all one way or the other. I'm sure they saw the fans show up... And I'm sure they interacted with some of them... They don't need to see a football practice and that's exactly what they would tell you.

I bet the whole storm thing was even a little bit exciting for them. It's something unique to our state. (reaching on that one i think..)

They came here to see tim miles and get sold on the facilities.

If anything I think even LESS harm came of basketball recruiting than football recruiting today. JMHO.

There's a moderate amount of fail in this post... Just saying.

You say "Look at the drop off from '09-'11. :L dude it was a brand spanking new offense with new position coaches across the board. The secondary has had a different coach for THREE CONSECUTIVE YEARS.

I won't even get into the fact we were in a new conference and the fact we were not built to play in the B1G on defense.

Replacing Lavonte David is going to be a tough task. There's no way around it. We absolutely cannot afford any injuries at LB and we need Whaley and Fisher to step their game up majorly. But it's not the end all be all on defense. If the secondary really "gets it now" like Bo says they do, we will be VASTLY, i'll say it again VASTLY IMPROVED from last year on defense. A healthy Meredith will be interesting. I think he could seriously have a big year, and Ankrah was really starting to turn it on late last season. He played extremely well in the Iowa game.

You say us losing offensive linemen to graduation is going to be "Devastating"... I'm failing to see who we lost that was so impressive. Mike Caputo was 2nd team all conference... then crickets.

We have some seriously impressive guards and tackles returning and with considerable experience too.

To say that we would be BAD on offensive line?? I'll use Bo's word: LUDICROUS.

xorbie I like that you represent the opposite of the sunshine pumpers, but I sit somewhere in the middle.

You say a losing season is very possible.. I did the same thing with HH, bold the games you think we will lose. Seriously you will begin to feel silly as you look at the schedule and try and pick out 7 losses. I mean that is some serious facepalm material.

Brasky, you certainly can't blame the entrance to a new conference, and new coaching hires as to the reason why our team has been so UNDISCIPLINED with mistake after mistake during many of the games we have played. All one has to look at is the 2010 season where we had a veteran team. I sure hope Pelini and crew can get our players to play with less mistakes, but I don't all of a sudden foresee that happening. I hope to hell I'm wrong about this!

This is why I see a possible losing season in 2012, as opposed to the replacement of players because of graduation.

The teams in red will be losses unless our team becomes much less mistake prone. Again, I hope I'm wrong! Since we're going to have some more youthful players on the roster, it's even more critical that mistakes are diminished or eliminated. I do see a better outlook with my rose colored glasses on. Maybe only 3 losses!

So you think we lose to teams like Wisconsin and Southern Miss and one of your reasons is because of our youth? We are tied for the 3rd most returning starters in the conference and that puts us in the top 30. Southern Miss is ranked 96th in returning starters plus a new head coach and Wisconsin is 116th plus a ton of position coaching changes. Now by no means am I saying that guarantees us wins over Wisconsin or any one else. I will stand right next to you on the dumb mistakes that Pelini teams make. I was the one that listed all the penalties from 2 years ago. But last year we made great strides in that aspect. And that was with an inexperienced team.

There is no chance in hell we lose to Southern Miss at home..................

They will be one of the youngest teams in the country...................we will actually be one of the most experienced teams in the country. Our two-deep is really pretty impressive with the exception of a couple positions.

The odds are better for a 16 seed to beat a 1 in the NCAA tourney than for Southern Miss to upset Nebraska at home.

The Nevada team Nebraska played at the beginning of the '07 season was arguably better than this Southern Miss team and Nebraska handed them a 56-10 defeat.

I'm not gonna start picking apart his other picks, but like I said..... Serious facepalm material.

Maybe Nebraska won't get beat by SM, a Northwestern loss may be more likely.

Another problem Nebraska will have is mad dog Bo and his temper tantrums with the refs. I can see getting angry occasionally, but come on, he's just plain ridiculous and quite frankly it's embarrassing to a lot of Nebraska fans and to our program with that bullshit of his. That attitude needs to change if he's going to really turn our team into a REAL power again!

By the way, Brasky, I don't mean to be nitpicking, but when I saw your 2007 Nevada score, I thought I remembered a different score than 56-10. I researched it and noticed it was actually 52-10.

My parting shot... Again, I hope I'm wrong about my season predictions and will eat crow if I am! True story!

I actually heard way more people complain this past season about the fact that Pelini has toned it down too much........that they want to see that fire out of him again.

I personally like it when he gets fired up..........just don't like it when it gets excessive. The A&M game was too much. Other than that game, I haven't many complaints with Bo's behavior.

That's what I get for going off memory. DAMNIT.

Hey man I get where you're coming from.

I talk to a lot of people (mostly older) who have a serious problem with the way he carries himself on the sideline.

It doesn't reflect the nature and character of the people in our state.

You said you hope you're wrong..

Still it won't feel as good for you as the guy who had blind faith if they do great. Because you'll know that you didn't really believe in them.

I don't know how much satisfaction there will be for you in being right if the team does in fact suck ass this season...

Not saying you're any less of a fan.

I won't feel any satisfaction if I happen to be right. For some reason I feel better when my favorite team does well! lol

I will add that I'm no bandwagon fan either, I've pulled for Nebraska even when they had the worst defensive team in the history of college football, the 2007 team!
