Fun game, fun atmosphere. Very glad to see Spokane avenge the whipping they took up in Cranbrook last night (and another one they took up there early on in the season too). Although in a way I am kind of disappointed that this game wasn't closer. Who knows when (if?) Spokane will ever play in an outdoor game again so I would have preferred a more competitive game. No complaints about the Spokane win though. ;) It didn't rain, and although the ice was below average for a WHL rink, it wasn't horrible and actually seemed like it got better as the game progressed.

I'll be interested to hear if Bobby Brett somehow made money off this. I doubt they'll announce it publicly, so I might have to make some inquiries. If they did, then there's a better chance that Spokane would put one of these on again. There's also a question about how the field would hold up afterward. I guess we'll have to wait until the Indians play in June to see if anything went horribly wrong, but I doubt there will be any problems.

Oh and thank god the rain decided to wait because it has been pouring all evening. This game would have been postponed for sure if this rain had come a few hours earlier.

Yeah I had fun. I hope that Bobby Brett does it again at some point, but I do have a feeling, even as expensive as the tickets were, that he lost a fair amount of money putting this on. Not something you can do every year anyway. I'd definitely call it a success though, even excluding the victory.

What's the difference in capacity between Avista and Joe Albi? Did the game sell out?

Yes it was a sellout and there were very few empty seats. Just about everyone showed up, which put the crowd at about 7,000. Capacity at Joe Albi is 28,000. The reason they didn't host it there is because there were concerns that the rink might damage the field turf. The turf was replaced in 2006 by the Spokane and Mead school districts for high school football and it wasn't cheap. I heard it cost over $650,000 to put the new turf in. The school districts weren't willing to risk it, so they hosted at Avista where the Indians play who as you probably already know are also owned by Bobby Brett. So if there was any damage it all falls on him.

I really think these guys who put the rink up knew what they were doing though, and now that they've played the game, Bobby Brett might be able to convince the school districts that a hockey game at Joe Albi wouldn't harm the turf. 28,000 is a lot of seats and although I don't think it would sell out there, I have no doubt they'd get more than 7,000. Don't get me wrong though, Avista Stadium actually ended up being not nearly as horrible as I had imagined (sight line wise) and it was a great atmosphere even with just 7,000.

Nice! I'd be interested to see if they could sell out if they ever hosted at Albi.
