I can't honestly say I watched Philly preseason to get a feel for this...but that's interesting. I don't know if Billy will get another job in the NHL...not unless he's taking minimum salary. Sorry bud, I love you (and I'm thrilled you'll never wear that orange again), but it may be time to hang up the skates. :/

Mixed feelings. I couldn't handle him on the Flyers, so I'm glad he got cut, but I hope he finds a home this season. Not on a rival.

This cut makes my wait for hockey a bit shorter. I wanted him originally but hated him as of last night. (Not dealing with the Phantoms-Sabres spanking last night)

just curious really...how'd he play himself off the team last night? i heard about the shalacking they got the other night, but didn't see highlights or anything to know why it'd be the end of Billy G.

Yeah...except I think we all know that there's probably more danger in Asham than nearly 40 year old Billy G. :P See ya Thursday! (Though looks like Arron may be out :/)

It's difficult for any team to grab him, not just because of cap space, but because of roster space. Sure there are teams that could use him, however, if they're in a situation similar to the Pens, they're having issues choosing who to chance with waivers and who to keep on the roster. He'll find a home I'd bet...but it may be a week or two into the season when the injury bug hits.

He's been one step slower than everyone all spring and it showed...big time.

GM Holmgren:

“It just got to the point where it didn’t look like it was going to work for us,” said Holmgren on Guerin. “I think we all were hoping that he would add something. I know it was a tough situation for Billy to be in and we all thanked him for coming in on a try out like he did. He’s a class guy and obviously has had a tremendous, tremendous career in the NHL, but we just didn't see him helping us moving forward.”

The sad thing is, the only way he'll have any MORE success in this league is if he's with a contender, someone with young talent that'll keep him moving forward and motivated to play harder. If he goes to a team with little competitive edge or a bottom feeder, he'll just burn out completely. In essence, I think he's done. I know he won't think/admit that, but it's true.

I think Billy G. is a fantastic character guy, but in a cap driven world production tends to outweigh intangibles - especially when the Flyers have handfuls of those prototypes.

Homer agreed to a camp tryout because he wanted to see if Guerin could produce as well as motivate. He didn't do that. In fact, Billy G put up one of the worst performances at camp. Which is unfortunate because, personally, I wanted him on the club. But he's at the point in his career where showing up isn't good enough anymore.

Best of luck to ya, Mustache G!
