It was an ok episode. But I do love the idea of Butters burning down the gym and giving everyone the finger

I'm liking what they're doing this season by stringing all the episodes together. This last one was definitely the best of the season thus far.

I am not sure I like the concept of making SP a serial. The way each episode was a complete stand-alone was one of the unique features of the show, and I fear they are losing that with this new format.

I like serials, I just like some variety. And SP, as an episodic, has worked for so long, why change it now?

Yes, they have had serial arcs in the past (Black Friday trilogy, Cartman's dad, etc), but a few "To be continued" arcs do not qualify as a serial. This season has been a clear change in the format of the show.

FTR, my posts are super-anti-serial here, but that is not how I truly feel. I am posting ideas in a contrarian manner. I am not sure, yet, where I stand in the format change debate...

It's only minor continuity stuff so its not like a major format change. That makes it more tolerable. Its also lending itself to some quick, good jokes. I got a good chuckle out of Butters in the bathroom saying "Hey Eric. I'm back now" and I smile every time they have an assembly in the burnt ruins of the gym.
