Long productive weekend that started with one of the best hockey games I've seen all year on friday. Iowa State beat Illinois 1-0. I have never seen so many powerplays (and a penalty shot) in a 1-0 game. Five two man advantages, both goalies took penalties, the Illini bench was highly animated all game long...

Say what you want about college hockey (I'll admit the skill level lags far behind several other leagues), you can't knock the excitement factor and the game atmosphere. BTN and FSN has been slacking on showing games, and when they do show games it's on NHL nights and they end up sitting in the DVR for a while. I would still love to go to a game at Yost this year but I'm in the middle of all kinds of things and I don't see it happening.

Good for you getting to a badass game.

The thaw after Christmas fucked it up really bad.

-Rink turns to pool.

-Top half inch freezes, gets covered in snow.

-I can't shovel snow off, because rink won't freeze completely.

-Rink won't freeze completely because it's somewhat warm (upper twenties, even at night) and because it's insulated by snow.

-Rink finally freezes, and is bumpy as shit from snow.

-I flood rink with another layer to smooth it out, it snows before it freezes and stays bumpy as fuck.



I'm about to go out and check it, I might FINALLY have it in good condition. It was in the single digits last night and I flooded it yesterday afternoon... hopefully the snow we got tonight didn't half melt/freeze to the top layer, causing it to be bumpy as fuck again.

I just found out Anze Kopitar's little brother, Gasper, plays for the Des Moines Bucs in the USHL. We are gonna make it to a game soon. Not a lot of hockey around here, but what there is as exciting as it comes. Hell, I like the couple teams we have now better than both AHL teams that were in the area for a bit. (Stars/Chops)
