So out of curiosity, suppose Griffin cant play Friday night, Cousins gets the start and plays three quarters against the Ravens #1's on defense and actually does good? Aside from the social media frenzy, do we then still stick with the plan of Griffin as the day one starter??

Boy that's a Hell of a question. If that happens there is no doubt he has earned the job. Assuming there was an open competition which apparently there is not. And because of that I believe Grudog will be forced to start Griffin but I expect a short leash.

SM may not have a vested interest in RG3 one way or another, but Dan, Bruce and to an extent Jay all have dogs in this fight. So until such time as Robert either cant play, or is playing so poorly that they have no choice, its his show.

I think assuming they will start Griffin if he is not medically cleared is a dangerous accusation and I don't believe it for a second. But I do believe he has been medically cleared and expect him to start.

Unfortunately I think you are right. If KC started and played well, it would be dan and Bruce's worst nightmare. They want to avoid that situation at all costs.

Having an insiders perspective on being "medically cleared" I can offer this insight. The NFL has set protocol relating to what constitutes passing an concussive event. It would be extremely unethical and an outright deliberate act of malpractice to subvert this protocol. Further, although the team's medical officer conducts and monitors the extensive , comprehensive protocol, his/her findings are then reviewed and confirmed by an independent neurological specialist from the league. Once confirmed, then and only then will the player be allowed full participation status.

Specifically to the question, if Cousins does play well on Saturday, there is nothing that prevents Griffin supporters from claiming that because of improved line play Griffin would have performed as well if not better. This is an especially salient point for team insiders and media observers who have pointed out that neither KC nor CM have distinguished themselves in camp.

Maybe you're misreading the fan base, isn't it just as likely that most of the fan base can actually see KC reverting back to that deer in the headlights funk we saw when things went south a year ago?

Maybe it's just me but I feel Gruden wants RG3 hurt or in tough spots so he doesn't suceed so he can start Cousins or whoever he likes at QB instead of RG3. I also believe Gruden will make sure RG3 plays against the Ravens in hopes of the above comments. Now I haven't been able to view any of the preseason games because they aren't shown in Florida but the highlights or low lights I've seen it appears cousins and McCoy have shown more upside then RG3 so far. If things continue we will be drafting in the top 5 again and hopefully taking my guy from Penn State QB Hackenberg.

If I knew for a fact that Cousins would correct his issues from the past then I would say start him - 100%. However - you, me, Gruden nor anyone on the planet really knows if Cousins can correct these mistakes. I am on record as stating that I don't believe that the future QB for the Redskins is currently on the roster, but I am thrilled by improvements in other areas.

However - I would be thrilled to see Cousins or RG3 do well this season. Unlike you - I am rooting for the team and not simply certain players. The season is long & as fans we need to wait for at least half of the real season before coming to any valid conclusions on any of this.

and your point is what ? your boy blew his shot when he had it and now he has to wait for another . again preason is what it is . KC does well with a script vs janitors and walmart greeters but he can win real NFL games . that is on record , the rest is speculation

If it ever existed, I would have to think any FO pressure to play RG3 is gone now...I really don't expect Cousins to sustain it for 16 games...at some point this circles back to RG3...if he plays okay in that stint...kinda back to square one next year.

I for one do not believe that Gruden/RG3 is going to work, (no HC puts his QB1 in a preseason game behind a LT that most likely is not going to make the team) you just don't do that.

On the flip, I'm no longer sure RG3 really does have the skills or the body to play in this league.
