Nike's new NBA looks keep on coming

It's been a frantic week for the uni-verse, as the NBA's changeover from Adidas to Nike has led a slew of teams to unveil their new uniforms -- sometimes with a few days' notice, sometimes with none -- all of which has resulted in a frenzy as fans try to keep up with the latest news.

On Thursday alone, three teams have unveiled new uniform sets. We're going to take a look at those new designs here. Before we get started, a few quick reminders:

  • Remember, there are no more home and road uniforms. Home teams can now wear any uniform they like, with the road team required to wear a uniform that provides sufficient contrast.

  • All teams will be unveiling two additional uniforms -- one in the fall and one in the winter, in most cases.

  • In addition, eight teams will be unveiling throwback uniforms. Sportslogos.net has reported that the eight teams will be the Bucks, Hawks, Heat, Hornets, Lakers, Pacers, Suns and Warriors. One of those teams -- the Bucks -- has confirmed that it has a throwback design on the way.

  • Starting this season, all teams are permitted but not required to wear a corporate advertising patch. So far 12 of the league's 30 teams have revealed plans to go ahead with a patch (including one, the Bucks, who announced their patch partnership with Harley-Davidson on Thursday), though others could follow before the start of the season or even after the season has begun.

Actually every team does get at least 2 new jerseys apparently.

So I really hate the stupid corporate logos on the NBA uniforms. Makes things look cheap, it takes away from the identity of the team. Example: Like a team like the Bucks who's colors are Green/Tan? and then there is a black and orange Harley Davidson logo on their uniform.

However, I guess it could be worse. I thought it was going to be more like Soccer or WNBA where you don't even know what team is playing you just see the ad on the jerseys. But still, c'mon NBA is a few more millions really worth it?

So far with the new uniforms Nike has been more hit then miss.

I was referring to the stupid name change.
is

I was stationed at Fort Meade, MR when they changed the name and remember this clearly.

So, I don't have a problem with them wanting to disassociate themselves from the violence in that City.

I do have a problem with them choosing the gayest name imaginable.

I mean, this is what happens when you allow the fans to pick the name by voting at a fast food chicken restaurant and thru 1-900 numbers.

In fairness, it could have been worse.

Could you imagine the public outcry if they had gone with the Zulu's?

Tony Kornheiser had a field day with them when this happened...lol

The ensuing contest was indeed run through Boston Market, and the restaurant reportedly received 500,000 name suggestions involving around 3,000 separate names. Some of them were classic.

They "ranged from what you'd expect, like the Washington Generals or Washington Stars or Washington Monuments, to some strange ones," team spokesman Matt Williams said at the time. "Antelopes, Astronauts, Geckos--that's a lizard, I believe--and the Funkadelics. You wouldn't believe it."

Other choices included Accelerators, Zulus, Wolverines, Litigators, River Dawgs, Power Cats, Glory, Fury, Cobras and Monuments.

The finalists--chosen by a panel that included Pollin, Susan O'Malley, George Michael, Juwan Howard and others--were Sea Dogs, Express, Stallions, Dragons and Wizards. Fans had three weeks to vote among the five finalists via a 1-900 line; the $1 cost was given to anti-violence efforts. And the choices were roundly skewered.
