We just gave up a QB entering his prime so we could get a 3rd rounder in 2019

In return, we got a QB who is in his prime, and might be on the down side slide, and gave up a 3rd this year and possibly a starting CB to boot.

Where are all the Bruce knows best posters to defend this move?? Because this trade/deal what ever you want to call it looks bad right now.

By the way... this move confirms what I have thought for a while.

Bruce has no clue when it comes to scouting Rookies, which is WHY we end up over paying for other teams "stars"

I mean there was really only one move I would have found more depressing.

Who even cares

I do.. I been feed a steady diet of any one could replace Cousins. And if we improve the defense this is a contender team.

Well we just replaced Kirk with an any one, so we better improve the defense. If this team gets WORSE and Bruce isn't fired.. I'm seriously hoping some one has Dan Snyder committed for the safety of others.. namely the Redskins fan base.

The worst part is NOW I actually want a new rookie QB and we wont get one cuz we just committed to one I DONT want for 5 years.

I literally do not understand this move. Allen should be shown the door. Kendall Fuller was going to be our #2 CB next year, plus we gave up a 3rd round pick. These types of moves cripple teams. We must have really hated Kirk.

Why did we not try to transition tag Kirk and get something for him at least? He will now walk and we have nothing to show for it. Why does this FO hate him so much?

Can Sunder not see that Allen is ruining this team? They didn't even have the guts to tell Fuller and he had to find out on social media?

What a disaster! We will look back on tonite for years and be sick to our stomach.

Welp, everyone agreed that one way or the other the whole Kirk Cousins saga needed to reach a conclusion. One way was to sign him to a long term contract, Bruce Almighty, chose the other. In the end this saga, save for where Kirk goes is, as wished for...OVER!

Now everyone thank Bruce because he knows that....

Not shocked, I guess I am shocked at who they picked up. The sell is we just picked up the best QB from last year and didn't get held up by the contract Cousin's was going to command.

I don't agree with that trade. We just got worse defensively by trading away Kendall Fuller. I wanted Cousin's to be signed to a LTD. We all know that SM and Bruce mismanaged this from the beginning. It feels a bit like we just traded for Donovan McNabb again. I don't believe Smith will play as badly as McNabb did. I don't think the team will regress under Smith. He was the best option out of all the options out there. Still wouldn't have been my choice.

Done now, nothing to do but try to get better defensively. At the same time this team needs a bunch of things for Smith including at least one WR.

Sadly the Redskins could have had Cousin's LTD following the 2015 season for what they paid for him on two tags and instead we now have a QB for $71 million guaranteed.

Not a happy day in Redskin land. Go Smith!!!

The more I think of this the madder I am getting. The Chiefs had decided to move onto Mahomes and WANTED to get rid of Smith. Apparently multiple teams were in the hunt ... BUT Bruce won ... he gave up the most to get a QB not as good as Cousin's. Man our FO and owner suck.

So... we got to go defense with the 13th pick now right?? :noidea:
I bet a large amount we go QB with the first pick. After we move up, that is. No, defense gets no help this year.

In the NFL, some GMs want to draft young QBs because it buys you at least a year while you see if the player can play. Other GMs are afraid to draft young QBs and overpay for mediocre veterans, just to know they have a capable starter (and a job).

Allen clearly made a decision that he didn't want to bank his future on any of the rookie QBs this year. I get that to an extent. But it is hard to understand Alex Smith over Cousins given their age. Maybe he thinks the team, which has a good defense, is closer than we think. But I think he might just be managing scared here, and (you knew this was coming), dealing with an impatient owner.

And don’t forget that we don’t have to worry about getting playing time for all those young, talented, cheap CBs. Makes the coaches lives easier.

You do realize Cousins was NOT signing here in DC.

The truly sad part is that you ACTUALLY believe that Smith is "not as good" as Kirk. In truth it's basically a wash with a extremely slight edge going to Smith because of his abilities outside of the pocket.
