...In a Walgreen's yesterday, and I happened to see a couple of fantasy football preview mags on the newsstand. Remembering the Good Reverend Jim's post a couple of years ago on CBS asking who still reads these, I picked 'em up.

I have just leafed through them so far and nothing has jumped out at me as anything special (and certainly nothing I can't get online), but there is an odd sort of comfort in having them. If nothing else, they might be handy for some quick reference...and bathroom pit stops.

Has anyone else done this? I'll say one thing, they sure ain't cheap!

It has been a couple of years ago, but I grabbed one for some reading material at the airport mag store for a flight. Might do it again when I fly alone as it proved to be a nice way to pass the time.

My father still grabs one to read every year. I think he mostly reads it while on the throne. It's been a few years since I have read one of them. Too many instant update websites dedicated to FF for those dated magazines to be very helpful.

I usually get 2-3 a year, every year. Bathroom reading, late night can't sleep reading and so on. Sometimes just to see what others are thinking. Rarely for any true research.

But the one that I absolutely must have going into the important drafts. ..USA TODAY Sportsweekly fantasy football issue. Why? They have, hands down, the best cheat sheets for me to mark off players on Draft day. . Easy to read, big type for highlighting, and be weeks right the. Not too mention, it's printed about 3 months after the typical rags. . Much more up to date.

that was the major reason I used to buy them as well. stopped around 2010-11 though, so its been awhile.

2 things changed:
1) like mentioned above, too many websites with up-to-date info now
2) I spend A LOT more time in the summer reading about teams/players now than I did in the past, so when the draft rolls around, I usually already know each teams' fantasy roster

I have never bought one. I seen a guy bring one to a draft party and if I am being honest thought what a rookie. I am certainly not calling anyone here a rookie but that is what I thought when I seen him pull it out before pickking. That's really the only experience I have ever had with a magazine about ff.

Well the rookie is the one who bought the thing on the way to the party and doesn't even know where to find what he's looking for in it. It's easy to tell the difference.

i will try to hunt that down ..

however it may be hard to find here in Montreal...

ill probably have to look through a pile of 2572 different Hockey rags to find it at the bottom of the pile

Lol.. yeah might be tough. In the days before the Internet I was a subscriber. I let it lapse every now and then so they send me the cherry offers to resubscribe..I think I currently have a six month subscription which includes all the "special" issues for like 20 bucks. . And it includes an ecopy online.

So I guess what I'm saying is that if your untested in it. . Subscribe, helluvalot cheaper than buying it at the newsstand.

But the one big hangup I see for you. . Their sports coverage is pretty much only baseball and football. Sometimes a couple pages of NBA, rarely if ever hockey. . Possibly another reason why I like it so much

But. . Where do I see it? Gas stations in their news racks, and bookstores. .B&N, Borders, places like that. Not so much in department stores though
