This might be like that movie called Blindness. I don't know what it is this season, but I feel like the umps are calling strikes/balls completely f'd up. It's like the MLB said, "Alright guys, we've got an even more accurate computer to show the fans what balls/strikes are on the screen! We'll even put a little B/K there so even complete dumbasses know what it should be. Make sure you DON'T call the same thing as what the computer says so we can show that our umps are really valuable!"

I dunno, maybe it's just been shit luck with my team, but good lord I feel the umps are all over the place.

This is why computers need to be the new umpire... or at least the MLB should try them out. Could be much more accurate...

I know it would get rid of tradition but they could at least try them out.

Some traditions need to fall by the wayside.
The sensors and the computer have no bias or hurt feelings.
I agree, time to try it.

Well I used to hate the ESPN Strikezone box on their games that they broadcast... but now I don't mind seeing it... Much more accurate.

I have probably only watched 20 or 30 innings of Red Sox baseball so far and I have seen a bunch of bad calls on the bases. Yesterday the catcher, Vasquez takes off for 3rd and slides in with his lead foot about a foot above the base. Umpire calls him safe and my buddy and i are looking at each other like, whaa? They reviewed the play and the call was overturned, but the fuggin ump was standing two feet away, how did he miss that?

I agree with the fellas who say it's time to get computers or robots to call balls and strikes. The strike zone is supposed to be from your knees to your armpits and 17 inches wide, not from your knees to your waist and 25 inches wide or whatever some dickhead umpire has decided is his own personal zone.

Seems like they've been especially awful the last two seasons.

with the accuracy of the machines, I don't see how they can not go away from human umps...

But to the question of the thread, I don't think the umps are going any more blind than normal... problem is that we the fans see better what is a strike or a ball... we would always complain about umps, but now we can actually prove them right or wrong...

I am not a traditionalist at all, but the only problem I have with going all mechanical and all is that there will be less players and managers ejected... this is already a trend we are seeing with the challenging of plays, there just seems to be less emotion after a bad call... and watching these blow ups is part of the fun of watching baseball...

Eh I'm not into the blow ups at all. They are funny but I'm watching for the actual game/score, not to see an ump or player lose his shit. It's either a) frustrating because you know the player is right, b) annoying because the player is just being an ass.
