Snow signs Steady Steve Staios

The New York Islanders have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with defenseman Steve Staios.

Staios, originally in on a tryout basis for the Islanders Training Camp, has played in each of the Islanders three preseason games this month and is set to dress against the New Jersey Devils tonight at 7 p.m. at the Prudential Center.

The Hamilton, ON native has played in 936 career National Hockey League games, scoring 56 goals and 156 assists for 212 points. He has also accumulated 1,269 penalty minutes over the course of his 15-year NHL career.

if the Isles win the Stanley Cup this year he doubles his salary 800k to 1.6mill. I guess its enough motivation to keep blocking shots with his face though

Staios was a lock to make the team with the way he's played during the preseason. He brings nice veteran presence as well. Besides the Isles defense needs all the help it can get.

doubtful ... Im sure he saved a bit the past couple years

he was being handsomely overpaid by a couple mill for the last few years in both edm and calgary
