Its just funny to me to see a guy go to 3 teams. Win with all 3. Yet every fan base hes ever played for can't wait to get rid of him lol

Theres literally only 1 QB the last decade with a better win % than Smith. Tom Brady. Thats the list.
I’m his biggest fan, as my college team is the University of Utah and team is the Niners and I was neutral about Washington before Smith was traded there. I like watching him win regular season games and root for him to get at least one playoff win every playoff season (though I know he hasn’t).

5-1 this year, 11-5 overall with Washington (counting the game he got hurt and lost). Would have been 5-0 maybe if not for a roughing the passer penalty that put the other team in FG range or close to it. Although, if WSH had won that game, Smith wouldn’t have played last night.
That's pretty good. Its almost on Garoppolo level. I'm rooting for Alex since he got fu*cked in SF and K.C.

I disagree. When he is 100% he doesnt miss many throws.

I just showed you he is a career 62% passer.

I just showed you he is a 62% passer on less than 7 YPA.

He does miss that many throws and refuses to throw into any coverage. He has had one singular great year in his career and that is what you think he is. It isn’t. Nick Foles had one great year too.

Its amazing to me that Smith has been on 3 shitty teams who all magically made the playoffs in spite of him . Thats some crazy good luck.

Chiefs went 2-14 the year before he got there but must have been just about to turn the corner when they added Alex and he came along for the ride

And how fortuitous for him to just happen to be the starter in 11 of Washingtons 17 wins over the last 3 years despite only starting in 15 of the 48. Man thats luck
This is a very good point. Alex Smith does indeed seem to win a lot, and the best example of his value to a team might be his time with Washington.

He doesnt make many mistakes - although he does make some - and by throwing high percentage passes close to the LOS, he helps mitigate any ball insecurity.
The problem most recently though is that teams dont respect his deep ball, because he doesnt throw any, and thus he becomes a one dimensional check down artist extraordinaire. When ypu couple that with being unable to escape any pressure, its no wonder that the WFT could get nothing going in the second half against the Eagles.

At full strength, Smith could at least throw a pretty nice 15 yard slant pass to Terty Mac to keep defenses honest. Now? Ten yard hooks are about it.
That’s not gonna cut it.

Wouldn't shock me in the least in Washington beats Tampa this weekend to be honest. Evans out. White out. Barrett dinged and maybe out. If WFT gets pressure on Brady they've got a great shot to win

I hope so.
We both agree that getting pressure on Brady early and often is key to beating Tampa.
I’d really like nothing better than kicking his ass out of the playoffs. Enough of Brady already.

I hope they win because of AS, and not despite him.

@rmilia1

Smith’s first 6 years: 1,137/1,959, 58.0%, 6.4 YPA
Smith’s rest: 2,113/3,234, 65.3%, 7.2 YPA

In 2017, with weapons and his reputation for short passes lead the league in deep passes.

If not for the injury and calf issues, I’d say the last 8 would be more indicative of what Washington would get. But if injured, it changes things.

How did he get fucked in either location?

KC...replaced by the best QB in NFL history at this point in his career, with an MVP and a SB...both of which AS never had, never would, and never will.

In SF, he was replaced by Kap because of injury. Kap went to SB after having an equal record to AS.

He definitely got fucked by the niners. I’ve always said they win that sb with smith. KC is a different story

So many people talk about how he couldn’t come back from 17 points against Atlanta like Kaepernick did, etc. But I hate when people act like the exact same thing would happen if Smith had started. Different game plan, different approach by Atlanta. It could be better, as in never getting down by 17, or it could be worse, but it wouldn’t be the same.

SF 2005= 2-5
2006= 7-9 with 7 overall defense and 5th rushing offense
2007= Injury
2008= 7-9 Alex Smith couldn’t beat out Shaun Hill (2-0 in 2007) or JT O Sullivan...put on IR
2009= Shaun Hill beats out AS. AS takes over as starter in week 8. He went 5-5, after Hill was 3-3. Shaun Hill was as good as AS.
2010= 49ers started 1-6. Troy Smith played the next 6 games and went 3-3. AS started the next four going 2-2. 3-8 on the season.

AS was 19 and 31 at this point. Nobody had been given more opportunity.

2011= 13-3 with the 4 overall/2 scoring defense and the 8 rush offense. AS was 19 in yards, 17 in YPA, 17 in TDS, and 20 in attempts. They basically took the ball out of his hands to win.

2012- 11-4-1 They go to the SB with Kap and follow it up with 12-4 with Kap the following season. Sorry but AS was not screwed there. He got beat out by numerous players and was given more chances than any player in history.

KC 2013- AS comes but so does Andy Reid. Who was more important? Obviously Reid. They won the SB when AS left. Lost in WC at 11-5. 9 overall/6 scoring D, 10 rushing offense...AS 17 in yards, 29 YPA, 16 in TDS, and 15 in attempts

2014= 9-7 no playoffs in spite of 7 overall and 2 scoring d and 10 rush offense. AS was 22 in yards, 24 YPA, 19 in TDS, and 18 in attempts

2015= 11-5 and a win in WC weekend. 7 overall/3scoring d and 6 rush offense. AS 29 in yards, 14 in YPA, 20 in TDS, and 19 in attempts.

2016= 12-4 but one and done. 24 overall but 7 in scoring d and 15 in rush offense. AS 22 in yards, 16 in YPA, 27 in TDS, and 15 rush offense. AS 22 in yards, 16 YPA, 27 in TDS, and 21 in attempts

2017= 10-6 and one and done. 28 overall and 15 scoring defense with 9 rush offense. AS was 8 in yards, 2 in YPA, 9 in TDS, and 13 in attempts. This season was a complete anomaly. It is ridiculous to think this is AS, just like it is ridiculous to see Nick Foles as a 119 rating and 27 TDS and 2 picks.

How did KC do without AS? Foles was 2-0 in 2016 for AS and KC won a playoff game the year he left and the SB the year after. They are also the favorites to do it again.

As for Washington, we didn’t earn a playoff spot. We were gifted.

How? They were better with Kap. AS has a single playoff win in his fifty years in the league. They would have lost in the opening round with AS...and I hate Kap.

2 wins, but yeah. And only 49 years, not 50. ;)

HAVE to stop the run. We know we can get to Brady. If we stop the run his play action will have no effect. Put him in 3rd and longs.

He was playing well that season. I think they’d only lost one game before he got injured

I know that quarterback rating is not the end-all be-all and he had weaknesses, but he was leading the league in quarterback rating and winning when he got hurt. His previous two games were great. Kaepernick had great games, but it wasn’t until after they committed to him. Smith’s last 27 passes prior to concussion, completed 25 of them for 4 TDs, 304 yards, 11.3 YPA. Before that he had one average stat game in a win over a great defensive team in Seattle.

I think Harbaugh had justifiable reasons to start Kaepernick, but I hated the whole “hot hand“ argument because Smith’s hand was pretty damn hot at the time and winning 6-2. I think he wanted to keep teams guessing for as long as he could on who his QB was, exhausting the timeline where people may have thought the idea was health. He also wanted to hedge his pets in case Kaepernick imploded and also diplomatically hold the locker room together. Winning will do that, too, but they were doing that already with Smith.

You are wrong about SF but its hard to argue with you about KC because of Mahomes. More like bad luck there.
