Great news considering we play the Bears on Monday Night. Primetime game against that D with your backup QB is not the recipe for a good showing.

Going to be a tough game for both teams. Alex Smith is the right choice here if he can definitely go out and play. Wouldn't want to go with Kaepernick against the Bears.

Was Alex cleared for contact though? I mean he's not being touched(fine) as he was cleared for non-contact but doesn't he need to be cleared for actual contact before the game?

Surpised a bit Kap isn't getting "additional" reps due to the uncertainty.

Typically if you can practice it means you'll be ready to play even if it's non contact.

Off the top of my head I can't think of anyone that's been cleared to practice but not cleared to play.

I can't think of any practice I've ever been to that the QB was allowed to be touched. I'm sure he'll be ready by Monday night, if he's cleared to practice that early in the week he'll be fine to play on Monday night.

They just said on Mike and Mike that Alex Smith will not play vs the Bears. He was not cleared by the neurologist.
