No reason to cut Kereigan whatsoever, especially since he is on record as willing to restructure his deal.

RK is the type of veteran you want to keep on your team: hard working, lunchpail types, who do what is asked, and lead by example.

Additionally, his skillset translates nicely to a situational passrusher a la jumpy geathers. He is very strong, has a great bullrush, and has a high motor.

It shows a complete lack of foresight to get rid of kerrigan without first discussing how willing he is to renegotiate his contract.

I agree, cutting him makes no sense whatsoever. However, a renegotiated contract means dead cap money in future years when he's no longer here. (Renegotiated doesn't mean pay cut)

Cut to the chase, it's time ( actually past time) to move on. He still has some value on the market, so it's better to make the move that gives this organization more assets (player or draft pick) towards a future that's clearly coming without him.

I agree that RK is a quality guy. Restructuring is what you do when a guy is actually worth the money. He isn’t taking a pay cut. He will want his 12 million guaranteed over even more time.

It shows a complete disregard for history and implications on the future to want to keep a guy at top ten salary as a situational pass rusher.

As neither of us is RK, we don't have any idea what RK will actually do / ask for if Redskins brass sits down with him and asks him to restructure.

He had a down year this year, true. So did most everybody on the Redskins.

Restructuring is also what you do when you want to keep a valuable veteran presence on your team at a lower cost.

Just one more thought on Kerrigan and a possible restructure.

A restructured deal doesn't preclude the team from trading him, in fact, Ryan Kerrigan at a smaller cap hit makes him more attractive to possible trade partners.
