since the team arrived there in 1993...11,306 watched the Kings - Stars game.

But there's still 30 healthy franchises in the league, right Gary?!?

I listened to him get interviewed by Uh Paul Uh Woo Uh Ds and Ken Kal last night. He thinks he's doing a great job, he thinks Murphy and Campbell are doing great jobs, and his "low point" as commissioner was when the union forced the work stoppage... it was regrettable, but completely out of his hands, unfortunately.

I almost crashed my car into a ditch.

the whispers are that the league is already possibly paying the Stars bills but definitely advancing broadcasting revenue

Im just waiting for someone to ask Daly or Bettman if this is the case and we all get a denial ... deja vu all over again

Dallas is what, the 5th biggest media market in the US? One Cup and two Finals? Unacceptable.

They have developed a very good grassroots hockey program in the Dallas area as well. I guess people stayed home to watch the Rangers get throttled by the Giants last night.

You gotta think that played a big part in it. For being a southern team, Dallas tends to draw well although their attendance has dipped some the past few seasons with Dallas fielding subpar teams.

I haven't heard anything about them having money troubles although it wouldn't surprise me. Those Dallas area teams (sans Cowboys) seem to have trouble for whatever reason.

Get rid of the AHL in Hartford... Move em to Hartford. That would fuck the divisions all up though.

But...if that happened, wouldn't we still have to say fuck 'em? It's the same franchise. And I don't know about anyone else here, but I'd feel uncomfortable saying "Fuck Winnipeg!"

Wasn't Hicks looking to sell the Stars? I wonder if there is any funky accounting going on.

The new numbers should be coming soon based on last season, but for the 2008-2009 season, the Stars posted the 7th highest operating income in the league, behind only 5 of the Original 6 (only Boston missed it at 8th place) and the Canucks.

I'd be surprised if they were really struggling that much.

Let's be honest here. For the most part, no one is really watching hockey during football season. League attendance doesn't magically start rising in January for no reason. There's 16 NFL games and 8 of those are at home. There's more urgency to see the NFL and to spend money on it. There's 82 NHL games and 41 (guessing) of those at home. Not a whole lot of urgency to get out to the rink in October when there's still tons of hockey to be played.

I went to probably the worst NHL game I've ever seen last night (Devils at Ducks) and I figured the attendance would be pretty low for a Friday night - it wasn't a sellout, probably about 75-80 percent full, but wasn't nearly as empty as it should have been for those two teams.

I hope these two teams are not an indication of what the league has come to, because I saw no hitting, no skating, no fighting, no flow whatsoever from either team last night. I even saw the Devils trapping a little bit last night. It got me to thinking however, is the quality of the NHL early this season way poorer than any of you remember it being from Octobers of past? Maybe the attendance is reflecting that a little bit

Unless you're San Francisco. :p
