I know he had a rough go around his dad dying. Looks like he's decided to shut it down this season and stay with the family.

You have to think this is the end for a great player and all around good guy. One of my faves for a long time.

My heart breaks for Simon - I love everything about him and I just hope he can find peace in his life - the last few years of his career have been not what he's been used to but as long as he can be happy then that's all that matters

I saw a notification about his retirement on my phone earlier tonight and was wondering what the 'personal issue' was. Sorry to hear about his father's passing, yet relieved to learn that it wasn't a death/serious issue with his wife/child/brother/sister etc. I hope that doesn't sound cold because I am not minimizing the loss of a parent, but it just seems so much more heartbreaking when someone younger (especially children) die or become deathly ill....which is what I was worried about.

probably my first favorite player. got his jersey his rookie season with the Flyers. had to get a custom one because they didn't sell Gagne jerseys. doesn't feel like it was 15 years ago.
