HBO may have covered the start of a huge storyline (As if it wasnt big enough)

Caps, Ovechkin going into the Classic sucking.
Penguins have a 12 game win streak, Sid has a huge point streak.
Pens lose, Caps win. Crosby goes down.

Wow.

If it's true, he may miss camp/part of the season, I have a few questions...

-Why would a concussion be effecting you for this long?
-Do guys who miss this much time from a concussion ever have normal careers again? Because I can't think of an example, but I can think of a lot of guys who've had severe concussions and had their careers cut short, derailed, or ended because of it. Anyone have an example of a guy who got rocked by a concussion for a year and then came back like it was nothing.

Also, I don't know about you guys, but Sydney Corgi looks alert to me. He's down in the parents basement training with the dryer again...

sounds like this turned out to be true

Shero said that Crosby has experienced some occasional symptoms, but emphasized that those are related to how hard the Penguins captain has pushed himself – which is good news in itself – and that they are to be expected with an injury like this.

“He pushed himself pretty hard this summer, which is the good news,” Shero said. “He’s never had to get to the point where he’s had to shut himself down or anything.”

While Crosby is in good spirits and is making positive steps in his progress, Shero also emphasized that the team will not rush the star center in his recovery.

“The thing for me and for the organization is the bigger picture with Sidney Crosby, making sure that he is 100 percent cleared and ready to play when he does come back,” Shero said. “He’s not going to be pushed to come back to practice or play.

I'm curious, is there anger among any of the Pens' fans that Crosby wasn't held out or better diagnosed after the Steckel hit? I'm not sure if the training staff took any heat over this one or not, or if he wasn't symptomatic at all after the Classic and the doctors did what any team doctors would do. I've heard very little about that side of the story. It's good there is no pressure from the top for him to rush back.

I guess I am angry in general. Mario having issues for the bulk of his prime now this. TBH I just want some sort of definitive deal, I imagine he will be a shell of his former self if these reports of STILL having issues are true. If this is the case 8.7 is a lot of cap space to be without.

Andreas Lilja missed a year of hockey due to a concussion when he was with the Wings. Only guy I can think of off the top of my head.

Just this morning i said this to my son. I don't think his career is over by any stretch but if that were the case, the Penguins have to be held accountable for allowing him to play against Tampa a few days after the Steckel hit.

I truly believe the medical staff/Pens dropped the ball on this one.

Didn't Bouchard from the Wild miss a season as well?

The one thing that would concern me about Crosby going forward is he's going to have a target on his head literally.

Okay, here goes my semi-rant:
Absolutely the training staff should be held accountable. He took a nasty hit to the head, and was clearly 'foggy' like he got his 'bell rung'. I'm a freaking junior in college and I know THAT'S WHEN YOU TEST THEM. It's simple, could be done in between periods, and zip, zap, diagnosis. Seriously, watching that 24/7 clip, the tiny little one where he talks after the hit, it was clear he showed symptoms. Slow to respond, seemed out of it, didn't quite remember the hit. The fact that a professional training staff let this go is horrible. Especially when it's the star player. Those are the ones you watch like a hawk.

That said, when he (Shero) says that he's shown some symptoms when he "pushed himself" it makes me think he had some spotting in his eyes or a little headache. Residual stuff tends to last a bit. Doesn't mean his career's over in the least, but it does make me nervous about the next hit he takes. That's for sure. *sigh* I hate this.

I didn't see the 4th episode until about 2 months later, and that was my first thought. That was on the training staff

I mean, it's tough to truly judge, because I knew at the time of watching that episode that he was concussed, but still. He showed fairly obvious signs. At the very least he should've been examined after the game. These guys have the best tools, resources, doctors, and staff at their disposal, concussions to your captain can't go unnoticed.

No, I highly doubt any scenario where Crosby is just done. I just wonder if this might cause a Eric Lindros or Troy Aikman type scenario where the person is still great, but night legendary like they might have been and have to retire with years of productivity left on the table. Time will tell.

Thanks for the info, P66. I was hoping you'd chime in since this is an area of expertise for you.
