Remember that long touchdown pass Lock threw to Sutton who laid flat out for a belly landing and caught by his finger tips in the far right side of the end zone? The after game reporting on that play was not only Sutton's amazing catch, but the fact that Lock went against the play call - choosing instead to throw it downfield.
I've been on football teams - so when I read Lock went with his own call on the play - I thought he might get in trouble for that with the coaching staff. In the world visible to fans I didn't see or hear anything about a repercussion for disobeying the play call.
The reason I recall that now is because here we are less than one year later and the OC who called that unused play has been fired and the kid QB who disobeyed got a bunch of new weapons to play with.
One little discussed change Shurmur has brought in as the OC - is he will be allowing Lock to call audibles at the LOS on every play. This, of course, means Lock will be trusted to make pre-snap reads. That's a bigger vote of confidence in Lock by the Broncos than the draft was. With that one play - Lock show Fangio and Elway he has the confidence to be a field general (and field generals are the best QBs).
