For what?

Did he gamble on baseball?

Did the feds have evidence he was illegally betting?

When would he be banned for life?

Do tell...

According to the Los Angeles Times, Shohei Ohtani’s representatives on Wednesday accused his now-former interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara, of engaging in a “massive theft” of funds to place bets with an alleged illegal bookmaker who is the target of a federal investigation.
Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times adds that Mizuhara was fired by the Dodgers on Wednesday, according to a team spokesman. The initial Los Angeles Times report states that, according to multiple sources, the Japanese superstar’s longtime interpreter allegedly stole millions of dollars. ESPN’s Tisha Thompson adds that Mizuhara was fired after questions arose surrounding at least $4.5 million in wire transfers sent from Ohtani’s bank account to a bookmaking operation. Ohtani’s lawyers made the accusations against his now-former interpreter after their clients name surfaced in a federal investigation into an alleged illegal bookmaker, Matthew Bowyer, who Mizuhara placed bets with. There’s a lot to unpack here, but Ohtani is clearly the victim in this complicated case. The 29-year-old two-way sensation made his Dodgers debut earlier on Wednesday in South Korea, going 2-for-5 with an RBI and a stolen base in Los Angeles’ season-opening win over the division-rival Padres.

HUGE breaking story.

TL/DR is that his interpreter apparently stole money from Shohei to pay off 4.5M in gambling debts he incurred by dropping Shohei’s name to the bookies.

If you believe that cover story, I have a bridge to sell you. He and the Dodgers did a complete 180 on their story regarding this dude over the last 24 hours. Shady as all hell.

So if something happens in the future that we don’t know yet, and which goes against the stink around the story at the moment…

What is the point of this made up hypothetical?

I’m sure all Padres, Giants and Rockies fans want him to get a lifetime ban just for being alive. Sorry to tell ya but he is going to be playing baseball for a long time and he is kinda good at it

Ohtani could be guilty..who knows.

His attorney said they have turned it over to the authorities. If he was guilty...that would be dumb right?

You asked how long it would be until he got a lifetime ban.

I am simply asking why would he be banned for life?

Did he gamble on baseball?

I’d rather watch a great player. Just think this is fun since it’s the Dodgers.

He won’t be banned. He is the face of baseball. Baseball will do everything in its power to protect him. But this story stinks, regardless.

The story was originally Ohtani paid off the interpreter's debt to the bookie, then they switched it up and said the dude stole the money to pay the debt. It's also illegal to gamble on sports in the state of California.

If it comes out that Ohtani was involved in the actual gambling, they wont suspend him for life....he might get a year long suspension if that and then back to normal.

I don't get the 'massive theft' part. Why does the interpreter have access to millions of dollars?

They'll do a reverse Michael Jordan and make him retire for a year and play D League basketball
