Sharks' Ryane Clowe, Red Wings Danny Cleary bonded by homeland - San Jose Mercury News

So far, Clowe is getting the better of The Battle of Newfoundland as the Sharks hold a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference semifinal series. Clowe also is emerging as one of the NHL postseason's impact players as he leads the Sharks in scoring with four goals and five assists.

Not only are the two friends, but they also will become extended family this summer when Clowe marries longtime girlfriend Jennifer Murray, who just happens to be Cleary's third cousin.

"No, I'm not a matchmaker," Cleary said. "But she and I basically grew up together. It's funny how they crossed paths a few years ago. He's a good player and a good guy."

Funny, the story doesn't mention that the girl is also Cleary's aunt and Clowe's half sister....

and now for something completely different...

i have a pretty good feeling baout tonight. wings definitely haven't played their best, but they haven't exactly been awful either. if their offense heats up a bit and they can minimize the turnovers, they'll be right back in this series. they've actually been the more physical team, and they've only given up 4 goals. scoring only 1 goal/game just won't get it done though.

wonder if babcock will split up pavel and zetterberg, not so much for offensive reasons, but for defensive reasons. they've been doing a good job shutting down the top line, but pavelski's line has been eating them up. they need a stronger defensive presence when that line is on the ice.

I like Datsyuk on Thornton's line, Zetterberg and Filppula on the second line, and Helm shadowing Pavelski myself.

Although Babcock hasn't confirmed it yet, supposedly Draper will be in the lineup and Miller scratched, and Dats and Hank have been split up to separate lines. Hank was centering Cleary and Bert, and Dats with Homer and Mule in practice. Mo believes he will still be scratched, although nothing has been confirmed by Babcock yet.

I like the changes myself. Helm seems to be much better when he plays with Draper.
