hmm time for a bump. but still $15M do they own arena... I guess Ill read the whole article lol

The city of San Jose owns the Sharks home arena, the 17, 562-seat HP Pavilion at San Jose, but the hockey team is the anchor tenant, so one assumes they get most, if not all, hockey-related revenue generated during their home games.

well Im not sure what their beer prices are or their hotdogs but it doesn't matter as I guess a portion goes to the city.

I also wouldn't mind knowing how many jerseys they sell. I can't take this seriously when so much information is hidden from the owners.

SJ tries to ice competitive squads every year, but the media revenue can't keep up. Ticket sales are great, but that's not where the most revenue is generated by the teams who DO make money.

Also, I'm not sure how it affects the bottom line (if at all) but cost of living is pretty high in NorCal.

I blame Joe Thornton

The correct answer is actually Marleau. After all, Joe scored 3 assists in a blowout loss last playoffs...so he's stepped up his game unlike Marleau and his frail, Sakic-like attitude.

actually it is in some respects ... this is a gate driven league ... and the big buys charge big money for tickets

they need to find more revenue streams ... the Sharks arent leveraged heavily like the Devils so its not like their franchise is in trouble ... theyre treading water

deep playoff success would put them over the top ... and i just dont mean from playoff related revenues ... I mean it would give them the ability to raise their ticket prices through the roof

Agreed but, if the media deal ain't what it needs to be, the gate can only do so much. The big boys charge big money for tickets, but they also have larger media revenues coming in too.

I'm just speculating, but I believe it has more to do with the media deal than anything not named Patrick Marleau (That's my great Sharks fan impersonation :p)

gate revenue dwarfs media deals in all but maybe 5 NHL markets

Ill compare the Sharks gate to the Canucks gate because while the canucks local broadcasting deal is large it cant be described as mammoth

Canucks ticket prices are an average of 40% higher than Sharks tickets ... I think sharks raising ticket prices would really take a bite out of that $15 mill loss ... the question is ... can the market sustain that price ... the answer probably not ... with the history of playoff flameouts

Aren't rental prices really high in Northern California? They could introduce a new "Live in Your Seat!" program.

I also wouldn't mind knowing how many jerseys they sell.

You have to partly blame the fans for making their own jerseys instead of buying them...
