I the play Kaep got sacked by Jordan, Davis wasn't even trying to get open. Instead he was engaged with the defender like he was blocking? This reminds me of the coaches film thread where none of our WR are coming back to the ball when the QB needs them too, and the fact that they always seem to run the wrong routes and have multiple receivers in the same area. Either our passing plays are so damn simple that there are no hot routes, or our WR are just that bad.

Noticed that too and on another play Boldin jogged about 5 yards down field and didn't really run a route.

I was watching the Eagles game earlier and some of those passing concepts were so well designed, nothing like what we are witness to over here.

I saw the same thing and was wondering what Davis and everyone else was doing.

Kap has struggled no doubt but man our pass play design sucks.

People can say what they want about the lack of receivers but a good quarterback needs to make those players around him better. They should not have to overcome the QBs shortcomings like the 49ers do.

Needs to realize he has no receivers and if Boldin or Davis are not open on a first look to just take off and run or find Gore for a dump off. He is dumping off more in this game than I usually see out of him so that's a positive. He still sits in the pocket way to long. It needs to be look and go if it's not open. If he would start establishing his legs again it would open up more time for receivers to get open. Kaep waits so long before deciding to run that the pocket collapses on him and leaves him no room to use his speed and athleticism to escape. I don't know what the coaches are telling him, but it should be look to Boldin and Davis and if they are covered just go.

Phil Savage (Executive Director of the Senior Bowl and former NFL GM, Director of Player Personnel, and Scout):

Because SF doesn't really have any HR hitters, style of OFF requires everyone to execute perfectly for 8-10 plays in a row to score. #tough

More:

IMO, tough for SF to use Zone-Read w/ Colin Kaepernick when they are in "22" people (2RB/2TE) much of time, crowds box with 8/9 defenders.

When WR Michael Crabtree returns, will help some because SF may be more willing to play 11 people (1RB/1TE) and utilize Zone-Read with Kap.
