Paul MacLean, assistant to Mike Babcock for the last seven years, is to be named the Senators new head coach. He leaves Detroit having won the Cup once, in 2008, to join the Senators organization. The press conference will be tomorrow.

Senators expected to name MacLean head coach on Tuesday

I don't know much about this guy but having worked under Babcock can only be viewed as a positive. I hope he's good with young guys. :director:

I like this hire by the Sens, I always liked Paul MacLean as a player (one of the best staches in the league) and when you have worked with Babcock, you're worked with one of the best of the league.

/Thank goodness it isn't Doug MacLean...

As a Sens fan I agree with the bolded segment.

As a television watcher I wish someone would give this man a job behind the scenes.

I like it quite a bit. I wanted somebody with a decent amount of experience and a guy who has won before. MacLean has both and hopefully he is also really good at helping young players.

If Kleinendorst (sp?) becomes an assistant then I'll be really happy.

Hey Urk.. how's it going?

Coach KK has certainly been great. I'd love to see him as an assistant too. Even more, I'd love to see him coach the baby Sens for the next year or two. We're likely to have some good prospects on the farm in the near future and he seems to be just the guy to teach these kids.

I'm actually pretty stoked about the future of this team.

I've been good man. I've been looking for a job after graduating from college. I haven't had much time to do anything really for awhile.

I'm excited about the draft and I'm excited about the prospects though. I have a feeling this rebuild won't take as long as some people think. Murray has done a better job then most people think in terms of drafting and developing players and that's what we need more of right now.

Hopefully this time he selected the right coach but I have a good feeling about it this time. His previous coaching selections seemed rushed and it seems like this time he really did his homework and selected a guy more suited to the current team. I really like KK too. I want him in the organization for the long haul but I suspect he might be tempted to go somewhere else if he doesn't move up to the big leagues next year.

I'm a little worried about coach K flying the coop too, but I don't think that Murray could just bring up our AHL coach again. I think they key now will be for the org. to be patient with MacLean and the young players. Look for rebound seasons from guys like Foligno and Regin.

Murray has been pretty good at drafting of late. I suspect that a lot of his "success" in making good picks can be attributed in large part to TIM Murray. That guy has a really good eye for talent, IMO. I'd like to see him take over as GM from Bryan. In fact I'd like to see that happen sooner rather than later. That way we can avoid Bryan signing Slava Kozlov to a 3-year/ $15.9M deal to "put us over the top". :nono:

I knew he wouldn't hire KK because it would look like Clouston all over again. I do think he deserves a role in the organization though because clearly the players that played under him in the AHL trust him and respect him. That's something that is very hard to come by.

At the same time, he needed to bring in somebody from outside the organization who has won before. And although MacLean has never been an NHL coach, he has served under one of the best coaches in the league for the past 7 years and won a Stanley Cup. He should be given the time to grow with the team and I think he will do a good job.

I really like Tim Murray too Kenny. I don't think there's any doubt that he's the next GM of the Sens. He's pretty much master-minded the Bingo Sens the past 3 years and he quickly built them into a Calder Cup winning team. He knows what he's doing and in about 3 years or sooner he'll be rewarded for it.

Bryan Murray has been an interesting guy though. He's made a lot of questionable signings and coaching selections. Some of his trades have been head scratchers but I feel like he was forced in some cases by ownership. He was told to "win" and he gambled too much to try and make it happen. Now that it seems like ownership has backed off and given him more slack, I feel like he's going to do a better job. I wouldn't mind if Tim did take over tomorrow though. lol
