The boy decided last week that he wanted to have a go in goal for a game. To see if he liked it. Still played last game at wing, but talked to coach afterward and said he'd like to try in practice a few times and then get into the next game.

Just found out at practice tonight that their regular goalie hurt himself, broke something. Out for season. Upon hearing this, 43.33 shrugged and said "Guess I'm the goalie now". So nonchalant about it.

He's been practicing the butterfly in the family room with the league supplied pad set all night.

also, congrats on hockey becoming that much more expensive!
I dig the idea of using the league's gear. I played goalie in peewee (about 12 years old) and used the stinky league-owned stuff as well.

Well, I think the only people who truly understand goalies are fellow goalies. Thus, the kid is already ahead of the game with his dad providing tutelage.

He is more stand up than butterfly. Right now I put him in the Ron Hextall / Sean Burke hybrid range.

But yeah, he will be taught the ways of Brodeur, Roy, Thomas, Peeters, Liut, etc. Above all, Tretiak, of course.

He will be warned of the pitfalls of being like Hasek, Belfour, and Turco.
