In what could be his final game in the blue and white, this kind of thing is going to guarantee he is going to give his all.

I genuinely hope that Don passes on even talking to him. No doubt he is an incredible talent, and better defensively than he gets credit for. I just don't think he fits the Blue Jackets identity, and I sure don't want to deal with his dad. But if he does come here, I pray we face the Leafs in the playoffs next year.

There has been some talk about the Flames going after Mitch, but I honestly don't think he would even consider coming to Calgary. Make no mistake though, he will have no shortage of suitors.

the way I look at it is Toronto is home for him and thats why he wants(wanted) to stay there ... I dont think he would want to go to another Cdn market where he will probably face the same level of criticism from the media and fanbase. He should go to a US market where he can be anonymous.

LeBrun agrees and said his Game 5 "performance" wont cost him a loonie.

Most every team will check in with him but the best teams will find it tough to fit him in their Cap. Not to mention their internal constraints. Most good teams have stars that it would be tough to bring him in and pay more (e.g. Colorado and MacKinnon).

The bottom dwellers tend to have the Cap space to pay him what his Dad thinks he is worth, but they are years away from being good. Not sure he wants that either.

I have no idea where he will end up but I think the AAV will be lower than he wanted.

So the most likely outcome is Toronto resigns him for 8x$13.249 and throws in free onsite day carre.

That's where I worry. We have gobs of cap space and are a lot closer to competing than most teams in our payroll range.

And by comparison, dealing with Portzline will feel like a huge vacation for someone from Toronto. Jackets players are not "anonymous" here, but the scrutiny is nothing by comparison. And most people leave players alone when they are out and about. Except Elvis' wife for some damn reason.
