This trade makes sense with the injuries we have but it also makes no sense because of his history of injuries. This guy can not stay healthy. This trade included a Draft pick from Seattle but i have yet to find any Info on what the pick was.

Here is a little information on Smith.

Sounds to me as nothing more than a stop gap DT for our team with some possible upside. He doesn't have to have a history of health, just needs to be healthy for the next couple of weeks. And I assume the pick that we gave up will be conditional on which player Smith ends up being: the short-term stop gap at DT, or a future rotation guy that contributes.
