Seattle safety Kam Chancellor had hip surgery | Seahawks Blog | Seattle Times
So bam bam might miss some games in the beginning of the season.
Thoughts?
The Seahawks have confirmed an earlier report from the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is reporting today that Seattle strong safety Kam Chancellor did indeed recently have surgery on his hip.
The surgery apparently occurred a month ago.
Rapoport notes that Chancellor may not be available for the preseason, and seems to hint that it might be a spot the Seahawks will have to address in the upcoming NFL Draft.
ESPN’s John Clayton has several times also reported that Chancellor had surgery.
The team had earlier declined to comment on the reports, GM John Schneider saying last week he did not think it was appropriate to comment on injuries at this time of the year.
Earlier this year, the Seahawks re-signed backup strong safety Jeron Johnson to a one-year deal worth $1.35 million, a contract that was restructured after the team initially put a second-round tender on him. Johnson was a restricted free agent.
Chancellor dealt with a nagging hip injury throughout the 2013 season, listed on the injury report at various times throughout the year as having a hip issue.
Indications are that it is not an overly serious issue, and not similar to that of receiver Percy Harvin, who missed most of last season after having hip surgery early in training camp.
Johnson is the only other safety with experience on Seattle’s roster, though DeShawn Shead, officially listed as a cornerback, can also play there. Seattle lost backup free safety Chris Maragos to the Eagles during free agency.
So bam bam might miss some games in the beginning of the season.
