Excerpt

Equipping his daily approach with a starter’s mentality, Washington Redskins defensive end Jarvis Jenkins may have his chance to re-enter the starting lineup tomorrow after nose tackle Barry Cofield was placed on the reserved/Injured (IR) designated for return list earlier this week.

It is expected that defensive lineman Chris Baker will shift over to nose tackle from defensive end, leaving an opening for Jenkins to fill on the end.

No surprise here, IMO. Goodell is the representation of the 32 owners and he's made them a lot of money. People seem to conveniently forget that Goodell acts on behalf of the owners, with his decision making.

“I’m not trying to stay in the pocket just to play quarterback,” he said this week. “I’m trying to play the game at an efficient level, a high level, and be what my team needs me to be to win. And if that (means) Coach calling more run plays, then I’m all for it. And if it doesn’t, and we continue to run the offense that we have, I’ll do that, too.”
When asked if he had given Gruden any preferences for how he should be used, Griffin said he defers to the coaching staff.

We all know that this game has to be seen as a must win. Forget the Playoff stats, this is a winnable game and we have to take advantage of that alone. This team has got to learn how to win games again.

From Rich Tandler...

—Alfred Morris needs 21 yards rushing to get to 3,000 for his career. No Redskins running back has rushed for 3,000 yards in his first three full seasons in the NFL. Morris seems to be a lock to do it in two seasons plus two games.

—The Redskins thought that they were getting a pretty good player in Roberts. But word around Redskins Park is that he is even better than they thought he would be. “I think what surprised us was his ability to play outside as well as inside, and he showed that early on in training camp that he can play outside,” said Gruden. “I really am impressed with Andre.”

—Ben Kotwica had some praise for Roberts’ ability to know when the field a punt and when to let it bounce, saying that making the proper decision is “yardage that doesn’t get chalked up all the time.” Roberts talked about how he approaches making the decision. “If the ball’s past the 10 obviously you want to let the ball go, hopefully it will go in the end zone although punters are paid to knock it inside the 20 from time to time,” he said. “For the most part, I know if I have room.”

—On Sunday Keenan Robinson played in his first full game since 2011, his last year at Texas. I asked him what it was like. “It was fun, man,” he said. “I wasn’t nervous like I thought I’d be or you’d assume I’d be, I wasn’t jittery. I think the preseason games really helped because I played preseason game like they were regular season games to me so it was easy transitioning. I don’t take preseason games likely because for me every opportunity I get to put my play out there on film that’s getting sent out to 31 other teams I wanted to make sure I was on point.”

Kewl back story

Excerpt

Jordan said he still has the football from that historic touchdown against the Bengals in 1995.

“I’ll never forget it – I was supposed to scatter out of the backfield, and we practiced it all week that if the backer came, I had to get my head around quick in the flat,” Jordan said. “They were playing man coverage, and the safety couldn't get through to me because we had a couple crossing routes going on, and the quarterback Beuerlein hit me right in the flat, and the rest is history.”

Redskins running back Roy Helu Jr. was surprised this week to hear his position coach was an NFL record holder.

“My coach scored the very first touchdown in Jaguars history?” Helu Jr. asked before getting confirmation. “That is very cool – only one person can say that. No matter how long the NFL will last or no matter how long their organization lasts or how well they do, Coach Jordan can say, ‘Man, I did that.’”
