I'm sorry, but they don't fool me. Eifert will start over Gresham, or at least he'll be more productive.

So we have a mulitpage thread on how Jones is better than Sanu, yet the coaches see otherwise? Who is just guessing at information here? Forgive me if I don't trust the 'talent evaluators' on SportsHoopla (except with Rey)

Who said Jones is better than Sanu? I said I thought Jones was better suited as a #2 WR with his build and speed. I don't know that anyone said Jones is better than Sanu.

And BTW, our coaches also thought Chris Perry was better than Steven Jackson and Jerome Simpson was better then DeSean Jackson.

First off, I wasn't singling you out, Tubbs, nor did I even intimate at it.

And I think the Perry thing was due to our effing retarded 'scouting' department at the time, who most likely didn't watch any college football outside of the Big10 on TV.

I think whether Sanu or Jones plays #2 in a game has more to do with the matchups and the game plan, I don't see either one of them as being light years ahead of the other.

Not really sure how the Bengals thought Perry was better than Jackson when Jackson went 24th while Perry went 26th.

We traded back.

^^^This.

We traded back because we had the opportunity to grab a starting corner (Deltha O'Neal). We had significant issues on that defense. We took a risk that we could trade back, get a corner and still end up with a running back. In retrospect it didn't work, but it's hard to argue with the logic. Especially given the fact that we still had the option to sign our own guy (Rudi) that had just put together some nice seasons.

We traded down. We were taking a RB and had the ability to take Jackson, but took Perry

Edit: didn't see it was explained already

Not to make this even more confusing, but (I'm pretty sure) we could have traded for O'Neal and still drafted Jackson. The Bengals picked up O'Neal by trading down with Denver from 17 to 24. Then with Jackson still on the board at 24 they traded back to 26 with St Louis, presumably with the knowledge that they'd pick Jackson and we'd pick Perry. The only think the Bengals got in return was a late 4th rder.

I'd imagine the logic was that Rudi was "the bellcow" and Perry could function as the change of pace/3rd down back getting 10-12 touches a game. That probably would have given Rudi better career longevity if he wasn't getting 350 carries a yr in his prime.

Not to state the obvious, but passing on an All World RB for a Rudi and Perry backfield was a terrible move in retrospect.

With that said, Sanu deserves the chance to start. He was playing really well for a rookie at the time of his injury

Which they turned into Stacy "The Franchise" Andrews (123rd overall).

In retrospect, the first part of the trade was fine. Trading our 17th to Denver for their pick (24th) and Deltha. The Broncos took (OLB) D.J. Williams 17th overall.

The Bengals were given a lot of credit from the talking heads for taking Andrews..... It obviously didn't work out, but there were more than a few folks that thought it was a fantastic move.
