hello ???

escrow???

players dont get there publicized salary every month on the 15th (that may not be the frequency now :noidea: )... theres an escrow holdback depending on joint revenue projections made by NHLPA/NHL

at the end of the year if revenues were as projected and league revenue hits the benchmarks the players get a nice big fat paycheque with interest ... they get their money back ... if revenues fall ... they dont get the money that was withheld ... so that mechanism exists

i think the linkage is correct the way they have it setup

the issue i have (which i stated numerous times in that business of hockey thread) is the owners go back at the end of cba's and squeeze the players and say their % cut is too high

bullshit ... Dally has made comments recently that the linkage between revenue and salaries is correct

What's this paycheque thing you speak of?

Although the mechanism exists, the history since the first lockout has shown us that the NHL and NHLPA are pretty decent at the revenue projections. I don't think there's been any situations in which revenues haven't gone up enough to satisfy the requirements of the escrow.

I'd like to see a cap that's tied to HRR but also has a hard ceiling. I.e., the player cut is 50% of HRR (that's where we're at now, right?) up to a cap of $80M (just as an example). When it hits that level, it gets adjusted annually for inflation, but anything above that goes to neither party. Every penny, less administrative expenses, goes to a designated charity, youth hockey programs, research and development for better helmets, whatever.

By making it so neither party would get it, there's less incentive to continually raise ticket prices and salaries, which should help to keep things under control a bit more. Even if they do want to continue upping prices, it goes to the benefit of others, not just to line the pockets of billionaires.

But then, since both the owners and players would have to agree to it, I know it doesn't stand a chance in hell.

DarrenDreger: Bettman says franchises have never been stronger. Says everything in due course if due course is going to happen. Very much undecided.
