Assuming we are decided at QB (no name, just a decision of some kind)

What would you guys think of taking Peppers at 17 and having him and Swearinger as our starters and keeping Cravens as the X man in the defense?? Yea I know we need to beef up the line, and likely need a difference maker at ILB, but I dont think I would be upset with Peppers at 17. My only other hope if we go safety is A Hooker in DC... but he wont be there unless some where between now and the draft it comes out he has a taste for something really messed up. And even then I think he comes off the board no later than #9

I've heard mixed things on him but I don't think I'd hate the pick (aside from him being Michigan). A lot of the guys I really like are either projected to go to early or RBs and WRs that I don't think we need.

I would have loved it if not for the D.J. signing. Peppers is quick and faster than people think, but from all reports struggles to cover in space or when left alone.

If we are going to go away from d line and MLB in @17, I'd much rather go Cook, or one of the corners. With Murphy out for a month, Galette not being a sure thing to make it out of camp, and with Scot gone, the teachers pet, Smith, may fall out of favor, I could see an edge rusher/OLB too.

No doubt anyone who gets Peppers in the middle of the first is getting great value, but for us, I'd like to see Sua get a real shot this year.

Not really seeing the point in getting Peppers - especially when we already have Cravens. Both play like under-sized LBers and will have to adjust to safety. And Peppers didn't have the kind of defensive stats you look for in a safety. He's versatile and a great athlete, but I question if he's really more of a special teams player than a great defender. There's too much bustability potential to pick him that high, imo - even if he filled a need - which I don't think he does.

I would be ok with it since his combine numbers support he is athletic enough to play FS.
We already know what he can do near the L.O.S. Hopefully he would be making more plays on the ball than on players. He also offers something on ST. I think Cravens is best floated around, losing him on passing downs at ILB would be terrible. He was much better than anticipated for a rookie.
Also, as far as speed -- Peppers was or is a fast as almost all the top offensive prospects

Peppers in not a FS. He is the same player as Cravens and Swearinger. I cant believe Baker is going to fall out of the first round. Besides Hooker he is the best centerfielder in this draft.

Washington's defense sucked... to be kind - against the run. When Cravens played ILB, there were times when the offense had the gall to run - How dare they. At under 220, he's at a huge disadvantage and can't hold up physically. The Skins can't keep putting him in that situation. It doesn't help the team, and Cravens takes a physical beating. He's a safety; he is not a LBer. Same thing with Peppers unless you want him to get killed. He's even smaller than Cravens. Yes, you can occasionally move these guys to nickel LBer - but only as a changeup - not on a regular basis.

I don't know, with coaching -- he could probably shut down the centerfield. Keep in mind he gained 10 lbs and still is just as fast as Baker who is 25lbs lighter than him running a 4.45 40 time. He wasn't asked to do that, so it is assumed he can't. Also, before Hooker declared, Peppers was being raved about as this amazing prospect.
The hype started back up after his solid combine. Again, just saying "if" we got him nobody should be disappointed. He should be amazing if used right, while Baker can only play FS, and likely will not want to be involved in a lot of tackling

there are mocks where Peppers in not in the first round either. He is a wildcard. boom\bust prospect. I am assuming Reddick will be there and should be no argument on selecting him.

Reddick would be great too, I'd love to see us groom a ILB and work on getting that issue out of the way.
Plus you can line him up anywhere on passing downs -- DE, OLB, ILB. Good pick.
I don't think its a stretch to think Foster may be there too.

lol. He is listed as a SS.

NFL Draft Prospects

I love Peppers but the great need for talent is on the DL. If they are convinced he can play ILB, I would consider it. He wants to play Safety and some team is going to be lucky to get him. If we sign Hankins and Hodges/Minter than I would be fine with the pick.

That why you fill holes in FA. You can then draft BPA and you have the luxury to upgrade at that time.
