Terry Pegula continues to do cool stuff in Buffalo, having team employees learn about everything from ice-making to social media to scouting while they await the season's return*. Such a great owner.

Welcome to Sabres University

Thanks for the post eloco. He is a class act for sure and I can't wait to see the following complex when it's complete. He always does things first class all the way.

Sabres University isn't the only positive news coming out of Buffalo during the lockout. The Sabres are also involved in a significant construction development next to their downtown Buffalo facility that will include a new parking structure, double-pad ice facility, giant sports bar, major hotel presence and other retail outlets.

The $123 million facility will be financed entirely by Pegula and is modeled on the Kettler Iceplex in Arlington, Va., where the Washington Capitals have their practice facility.

The Caps' facility is so impressive that USA Hockey is contemplating using Kettler as its base for the pre-Olympic orientation camp next summer before the 2014 Sochi Games, assuming the NHL continues its involvement in the Olympic Games.

Like Kettler, the Buffalo facility will see the ice pads set on top of the parking structure -- about the same height off the ground as the Sabres' suite level next door.

The ice rinks are set to open in the fall of 2014 and, with some 28,000 people registered by USA Hockey in Western New York, are expected to become a major draw to hockey players and events throughout Western New York and the Golden Horseshoe area of Ontario just across the border.

Yeah, Pegula is very attentive to his relationships to the fans and his community. He reminds me a lot of Leonsis' approach in his first few years as the Caps' owner - engaged the fanbase in a very real way and tailored some team decisions to things he heard from the fans to meet their needs and desires. That was as big a part of the Caps' success here as bringing in stars and winning. A good sports owner can be a real boon to the city. Nice to see Pegula doing many of those same things and even more. It's a real blessing for Buffalo fans and I hope it brings you guys the success that Buffalo so richly and desperately deserves.

For some reason, this thread title also brings to mind someone like Ryan Miller teaching a cooking class to the Sabres' ticket sales workers.

"Okay now add a pinch of basil (employee starts to drop too much in, Ryan streatches to grab some of it with his glove before it reaches the pan, holds the pose for a moment...) sorry, that was just too much."

Could make a good series of commercials when* they start playing again.

TP is one of the best things to happen to the Sabres in years.

If I was a Sabres player I would be real upset with myself if I couldn't deliver him a Stanley Cup.

That's the point. Why wouldn't you want to go through a wall for an owner that treats you like that. That is way last season was so disappointing they underachieved for a great owner and fan base.

Im cautiously optimistic that they will turn it around. <crosses fingers>

I think of him more in the medical field like curing stuff over his cooking skills. Hmmmm Don't know where I got that idea from.

Terry Pegula is exactly what the Sabres and the City of Buffalo needed. It's refreshing to see an owner who cares more about the fans, the City, and the sport itself, rather than just making a profit.

I couldn't ask for anything more out of Pegula except for the Sabres bringing home the Cup.

One day...........
